If you want that gorgeous scenic backdrop against two iconic buildings in Sydney, both the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, then you need to dine outdoors at 6Head, The Rocks. This restaurant is fine dining with the views offering dry-aged steaks and other fancy dishes.

As you walk in, you can see fridges of dry-aged steaks on display and walls of wine bottles. The dining area is simply immaculate and breaming with elegance.
It’s important to book in advance and definitely pick sit outdoors.
The journey to this restaurant can be quite difficult since the nearest train, light rail and ferry stop is located at Circular Quay. It takes a good 12 minutes on foot to reach this restaurant. While it was manageable to bring a pram on the journey, it is an unforgivable journey if you miss a turn or head down an alleyway. I recommend sticking to the main roads and avoiding any shortcuts.
The venue seems to attract a lot of special events, whether it’s engagements, weddings or birthdays. We saw quite a number of celebrations during our visit including a proposal and birthday celebration. The restaurant seems to help with those special events and even get involved in the festivities. It seems to get busy during lunch and dinner periods.
The menu itself is expensive. You can try one of the many dry-aged steaks, starting from $69 for a 300g rump of wagyu steak or even $73 for 300g of non-wagyu New Yorker steak. The steaks come with a choice of either chips or salad. If you don’t want steak, there are other dishes including a beef burger, gnocchi, fish and chicken.
6Head dining is best outdoors where you can catch a glimpse of the Sydney Opera House
We weren’t too hungry for lunch and weren’t keen to fork out $100 per person for lunch. We were also a tad annoyed that we didn’t get to sit outdoors with the views, but we did get to see what it was like. (I feel like I booked outdoors and should have pushed for it when we were being seated indoors.)
We ordered their Wagyu Potato for $20, which has a crispy exterior and soft interior and comes swimming in a horseradish cream sauce. The Homemade Gnocchi for $35 is a spinach gnocchi with herb butter sauce and spring vegetables. Finally the Dry-Aged Beef Burger for $33 comes with a beef burger with cheese, pickle and onions and a side of fries.
The Wagyu Potato was nice, but I was expected potato wedges. The potato is literally a whole potato with a few slices going midway through, so you still have to carve your own potato slice with the knife provided. The gnocchi and burger were alright. The gnocchi is a small serving and the burger is done well. The chips were crispy and cooked to perfection.
Overall, it’s a great scenic restaurant if you sit outside for the views and go for the dry-aged steaks. I’d recommend coming into the restaurant with a view to spend about $100 per person to get the most out of the experience.
