On 9 June 2023, we got a glimpse of the latest trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth from the Summer Fest 2023. The latest trailer was accompanied by a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis as well.
The latest trailer starts with a grim possibility, all the main characters on stretches and seemingly dead. Then, we see what appears to be reality where the main characters traverse the familiar plains outside of Midgar. In the opening sections of this trailer, Aerith muses how incredible the natural landscape looks, only to be reminded by the cool-headed Red XIII that not all is what is seems to be. Red XIII suggests that the world is at the precipice of impending disaster.
The trailer shows off some incredible scenes including Cloud’s flashback of the events at Nibelheim, the introduction of the newest Turk, Elena, Cosmo Canyon, and the Chocobo Ranch. There is every indication that many of the locales from the original game will be featured in Rebirth, but strangely there is an apparent lack of locations post Nibelheim. I hope the game goes beyond the events of Nibelheim and perhaps finishes at the City of the Ancients.
We see Red XIII and Yuffie join the team, along with team attacks as we saw in Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intermission during Yuffie’s chapters.

In the lead up to the trailer’s release, Square Enix shared six messages on Twitter:
- Day 1: A release date window being discussed.
- Day 2: Players will journey more of the world outside of Midgar.
- Day 3: The narrative will look at each character while discovering their destiny.
- Day 4: Rebirth will offer something to players who didn’t play Final Fantasy VII Remake.
- Day 5: There will be new characters joining the party. (Likely a reference to Red XIII, Yuffie and Cait Sith)
- Day 6: New and remastered music, including remasters of Final Fantasy VII Remake, are being crafted for Rebirth.
We have a new launch of early 2024 for the PlayStation 5
It looks like PlayStation 4 owners will miss out on this new game, since there is only mention of the PlayStation 5. The new launch window is early 2024, hopefully in January!
The Summer Game Festival also introduced the latest trailer for Ever Crisis, which you can check out here:
