Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – 15 September 2023 – the release date is announced for 2024

The latest trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, unveiled during the Sony PlayStation State of Play event on 15 September 2023, left fans on the edge of their seats in anticipation. The game is slated for an exclusive release on PlayStation 5, arriving on 29 February 2024, spanning two discs. This announcement alone generated a wave of excitement among the gaming community, eager to delve back into the iconic world of Final Fantasy VII.

One of the most striking revelations in the trailer was the presence of Zack Fair, a character previously believed to be deceased, now seen alive and carrying an unconscious Cloud Strife through the familiar streets of Midgar. This significant narrative departure from the original Final Fantasy VII storyline is both intriguing and captivating, leaving fans speculating on the potential twists and turns this new narrative arc will bring.

The trailer also offered glimpses of beloved locales from the original game, including Junon, Gold Saucer, Nibelheim, and Costa del Sol. These familiar settings, reimagined with modern graphics and enhanced detail, evoke a sense of nostalgia while promising fresh experiences for both new and returning players.

A standout feature of the trailer was the introduction of playable characters. Cait Sith, Yuffie, and Red XIII take center stage alongside the anticipated revelation of Vincent. However, it was disclosed that certain characters will initially appear as guest characters, with plans to integrate them fully into the gameplay in the final installment of the trilogy – these potentially being Vincent and Cide. This decision hints at a carefully crafted narrative arc that will unfold over the course of the series, creating an enticing sense of continuity.

The trailer also showcased an array of exhilarating gameplay elements, including the presence of multiple chocobos in distinctive black and blue variations, characters navigating the terrain in a hummer and scooter, and the introduction of new summons: Alexander, Kujata, and Odin. These additions promise diverse and engaging gameplay mechanics that will undoubtedly enhance the overall experience.

Towards the trailer’s conclusion, the formidable Sapphire Weapon made a dramatic appearance, leaving fans in suspense regarding the narrative’s cutoff point. Speculation suggests that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth may extend all the way to Sephiroth’s summoning of the meteor, with events unfolding in unexpected sequences and variations.

Regrettably, fans in Australia were met with disappointment as EB Games confirmed the absence of a Collector’s Edition featuring the Sephiroth statue. However, a Deluxe Edition boasting a hardback artbook, steel book cover, and mini-soundtrack will be available, offering an enticing alternative for collectors and enthusiasts.

Moreover, players with save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake can look forward to receiving the coveted Leviathan materia, while those who have experienced the Final Fantasy VII Remake EPISODE INTERmission will be rewarded with the Ramuh materia. These bonuses serve as a nod to existing fans and add an extra layer of excitement for the upcoming release, which will have its own level system and are designed to be standalone games.

As the launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth draws near, all eyes are now on the final installment of the trilogy. The tantalszing glimpses provided by this trailer have ignited a fervor of speculation and anticipation, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey back into the world of Final Fantasy VII and beyond. With its ambitious narrative shifts, dynamic gameplay elements, and nods to fan loyalty, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth stands poised to redefine the boundaries of the beloved franchise.
