Gram Cafe & Pancakes does superb Japanese soufflé pancakes – thick pancakes that are stacked in a pile of three and are worth wiggling on your plate. Unstack the pancakes after drizzling the maple syrup and enjoy with ice-cream. So far there are two venues, one in Sydney’s CBD and the other in Chatswood. (Just waiting out for the Melbourne venue of Gram to appear.)

The Sydney restaurant offers both takeaway and dine-in with their own unique menu.
The takeaway menu focuses on Japanese-style drinks and cute, handheld mochi pancakes with various fillings. The mochi pancakes range from $7.30 for strawberry or Oreo to $8.30 for Nutella hazelnut.
The dine-in menu offers both savoury and sweet options. For savoury, there is Benedict Premium Pancakes for $28.90 – three pancakes with two fried eggs, bacon, cheese and hollandaise sauce. For sweet, there is the Sydney restaurant’s exclusive called The Galeries (named after the shopping complex) for $28.90 – three Nutella filled pancakes, sliced banana on the side and topped with hot chocolate.
The dine-in menu also has thin pancakes with both savoury and sweet options. (But why go for the thin pancakes?)
The restaurant is located within The Galeries on the street floor. When we visited, there was a small queue for dine-in on a Saturday afternoon. It seems pretty popular based on its busyness at the time.
Instagram worthy Japanese soufflé pancakes
We ordered their Iced Taro Latte for $8.90 and their Premium Pancakes with whipped cream for $22.80 and additional ice-cream. The Ice Taro Latte was okay but wasn’t note-worthy. The Premium Pancakes, on the other hand, were true to form wiggly and Instagram worthy!
The Premium Pancakes taste great! It’s a worthwhile experience if you haven’t had Gram’s pancakes before, because the pancakes are fluffy and melt-in-the-mouth. It’s a fantastic dessert.
