The menu at Hanaichi is a delightful fusion of traditional Japanese favorites, featuring a tempting array of curry rice, ramen, udon, and donburi dishes. Among the most popular and wallet-friendly options is the small curry rice, available with succulent chicken thigh or crispy karaage for just $9.90. On a recent visit, I opted for this classic dish, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The curry boasted a rich texture and flavor profile, perfectly complemented by the slight crispiness of the chicken, achieved through expert cooking techniques. It was a satisfying, no-frills meal that offered exceptional value for money.

Stepping into Hanaichi, diners are greeted by a welcoming atmosphere characterised by a functional layout reminiscent of a university cafeteria. While the décor may be simple, the focus remains squarely on the culinary experience, with ample seating available for both dine-in and takeaway patrons.

Ordering at Hanaichi is a breeze, whether you’re dining in or grabbing a quick meal on the go. The food is served in the restaurant’s signature takeaway containers, ensuring convenience without compromising on quality. For those seeking an extra kick of flavour, additional chili spice and pickled ginger is readily available to enhance the dining experience according to individual preferences.

The restaurant always has patrons sitting around with the Hanaichi infamous plastic takeaway containers (like instant ramen boxes) with hot steamy ramen or udon or with layers of delicious topping and curry on rice. The cohort or customer base hasn’t changed in the decade this place has been around. Even in my university days, I know many students made this a late night destination to savour their delicious Japanese comfort food.
