Jollibee is a massive hit in its home country, the Philippines, with it’s famed fried chicken and spaghetti. It has made it’s way to several Asian countries, including Singapore, and the United States where it has been equally a hit. However for Aussies, it hasn’t landed yet on our shores but I think it will eventually happen.

Jollibee’s fried chicken dubbed “Chickenjoy” is a subtly seasoned piece of deep fried chicken. It seems to be known for its consistently good batter, flavour and texture of chicken. From what I have seen, the size of the chicken is usually consistent.
I think rightly, Jolibee’s chicken is compared with KFC’s chicken. While KFC has done well in places like China and Japan, at home in the United States and even in Australia the standard of KFC’s food has usually ranged from decent to sub-par. KFC chicken can be fantastic when it is done well, but it’s often the case that I have been disappointed with my order because the chicken is either too tiny, the chicken is overcooked, or its poorly cooked.
Aside from fried chicken, believe it or not, Jollibee also serves spaghetti, hot dogs and rice. You can order their Jolly Chicken Hotdog with fries and drink for S$5.40 or their Burger Steak with rice and drink for S$4.75. In Singapore, they also offer Nasi Lemak with a piece of Chickenjoy and drink for S$6.25.
My experience
I ordered their combo deal with two pieces of Chickenjoy, fries, drink and peach and mango pie. With the drink, I was happy to have one changed to milo instead of a soft drink. Jollibee has a self serve kiosk for drinks, but refills are not allowed.
When it came to flavour, admittedly I thought the chicken was pretty tasty and wasn’t too oily. The chicken was a decent size and seemed better than most KFC experiences I’ve had in Australia. For me, the highlight of the meal was the delicious, piping hot peach and mango pie (S$1.80 each) – which you should absolutely try.
