Kettle Black – South Melbourne, Melbourne – unwind for brunch in a old refitted 1880’s terrace home

Kettle Black is a popular destination for brunch with young adults. The restaurant is nestled on the eastern side of the Princes Highway. The restaurant is a refitted 1880’s terrace house with state of the art, modern architecture and design. It’s a splendid location for a meal.

We booked a room for a gathering of more than 10 people. This allowed us to have one of the private rooms upstairs, which is literally one table, and can only be reached using stairs. I thought the privacy was excellent and really enjoyed the experience of just being with my company in a beautiful, uninterrupted area with food and drinks brought to us.

The menu is a seasonal one with plenty of cuisines being represented.

It’s a great idea to order one of many Kettle Black’s beverages, including their “expertly” brewed coffee. I ordered their Iced Mocha for $8. The mocha was one of the better mochas out there.

My wife ordered the Miso Glazed Pork Belly Noodle Salad for $24 and I ordered the Lime and Chilli Prawn Toast for $24. Admittedly, I thought the Lime and Chilli Prawn Toast was the superior of the two dishes, because it came with a delicious, crunchy prawn toast and a lovely, tangy pineapple salsa. It was a stand out dish. The noodle salad was nice in the fact that it came with lots of interesting things on the plate.

Despite it being a good location, one of the annoying things about the area is that it is incredibly hard to find parking (with the limited number available) and if you do, the cost of parking and the time limit. It is very frustrating when the car park is full.
