Miss Ping’s at The Glen – Glen Waverley – a cute and contemporary place for Thai street food

Located near the entrance to The Glen Shopping Centre if you are walking from Kingsway is Miss Ping’s. I have visited Miss Ping’s a few times with family and also with friends and found my visits to be pleasant and enjoyable. When you come to a place like this, you should consider sharing dishes with the whole table and buying a few things from the menu.

Thai cuisine is a well known and loved cuisine. Thai cuisine often combines sweet, salty, sour and savory flavors really well and be prepared for a bit of chili. It is amazing how many types of food Thai cuisine has, from salads, curries, soups, fried dishes, rice (from crab fried rice to coconut and sticky rice), noodles (from glass noodles to pad thai) and a range of stir fry dishes like Beef and Thai Basil and Crispy Pork and Broccoli.

The décor for the restaurant is definitely contemporary and it has a very cutesy, female aesthetic to it with pinks and whites dominating the color scheme.

We ordered several dishes to try including Pineapple Fried Rice, Soft Shell Crab, Som Tam Thai (papaya salad), Crispy Chili Calamari and some Thai Fishcakes. I also got myself a sweet Thai Milk Tea, which is exactly what you would expect in terms of flavor. (Thai milk tea is often made with condensed milk and sometimes comes in an orangey look.)

The Pineapple Fried Rice came in an actual pineapple, which was really hearty since it had cashew nuts and other condiments, and you could scrape some pineapple flesh after eating the contents. I thought the papaya salad was good and a nice mix of sweet, sour and salty flavors. I really enjoyed the soft shell crab and calamari (perhaps due to both dishes being deep fried dishes).

Most of the dishes came as they were prepared in the kitchen. The first dishes were the fishcake and salad and the last dish was the Pineapple Fried Rice.

The pricing for the dishes isn’t too bad sitting at around AUD$10 to $30 a dish. For instance, Pineapple Fried Rice is $22.90, Som Tam Thai papaya salad is $15,90, Crispy Chili Calamari is $13.90 and Tom Yum Soft Shell Crab is $18.90.

Everyone was pretty happy with the dishes. It was a lunch time session, so we didn’t want to overdo it. It was easy to make a reservation by phone and things went smoothly.
