Museum of Play and Art – Sandringham – 2 hour session offering a whole lot of fun for the kids

Museum of Play and Art (MoPA) in Sandringham is one of two locations in Melbourne. The other is located in Geelong. It’s a marvelous, bright and exciting venue for kids to explore, play and be entertained. My daughter absolutely loved her time at the play centre where she was able to paint a car green, building a racing car and take part in their designated story time where she had a story about the Rainbow Fish.

Museum of Play and Art has to be reserved in advance as no walk-ins are permitted. You can book your tickets online, where children are $20 and adults are $16. This is purely a centre for kids and it can be expensive for larger families, which is why I went with just my daughter and me. Although I was allowed to entered before my designated time, bookings run for 2 hours at the centre.

There is parking on site, but it can be hard to find parking closer to the hour marks as people from prior sessions haven’t left yet and new people are coming for their session.

It’s quite impressive how much stuff is available. Kids can interact with a wall of portraits, including climb through the backstage for some hole in the wall photos. There are other portraits that display mind tricks on unsuspecting people.

Another part involves kids getting dressed in plastic smocks and using big brushes to paint a car. There were only ever around 3 or 4 kids at a time and there is a lot of prep work to get kids paint-safe.

Fun for kids over a two hour session

There are a variety of sections for kids to build mark-shift cars, interact with things that encourage them to use their senses, and to be creative.

In each two hour block there are designated story time and a dance-off time (where kids can dress up).

For adults, there is a café with treats for both children and adults. There is even space for functions and birthday parties.

Overall, it is a decent venue for kids. My kid had heaps of fun and I’m sure many other kids will enjoy this venue as well. I felt that for a two year old and for the same price, I enjoyed the Lego Discovery Centre in Chadstone a lot more.
