A New York minute means right away or immediately. Having ordered dine-in, it was probably took closer to 5 minutes for my order to be ready with burger, chips and chicken tenders. In short, New York Minute along Flinders Street is such a welcome additional to the plethora of burger chains in Melbourne, because the burgers are affordable, with their main burger, the Manhattan Island Burger, only costing $8.99 and is a really tasty, decent burger.
Highlights | Ideally takeaway orders are bagged and ready very quickly, otherwise their burgers seem impressive for being affordable and tasty |
Cost | $8.99 for the Manhattan Island Burger comes with grass fed beef patty, premium grade Swiss cheese, sweet imported pickles, onion, fresh tomato and cos lettuce with a hint of tomato sauce and mayo. |
Location | 170 Flinders Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 (and there are several locations all over Melbourne) |

New York Minute is an American import, obviously from New York. It’s history is that it was brought to existence by German migrants in the 1880s as a reminder of home. The menu offers a range of beef, chicken and plant-based burgers. There are a few burgers around the $8.99 mark with their signature Manhattan Island Burger included, plus Hell’s Kitchen Chilli Burger, Mini-New York Burger, and New Jersey Burger. Interestingly the plant-based burger has a green coloured bun.
Their location on Flinders Street is a good location, being just on the other side of Federation Square. It’s easy to walk to from Flinders Street and can be easily spotted. It’s also pretty close to Lune, the famed patisserie.
My overall experience at New York Minute
I ordered their Manhattan Island Burger with a medium combo with fries and a can of soda for $14.98 plus two of their chicken tenders for $2 each . The burger was well presented and had a tasty sauce combo of ketchup and mayonnaise – it was well worth the price of admission. The fries were crisp and had a nice texture and flavour. The chicken tenders were okay, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to order them again.
I thought the burgers were on the smaller side, though still much bigger than the burgers at Maccas. The serving of fries was on the smaller end as well.
The interior of the restaurant was small, and slightly messy given it was busy on the day of my visit. I didn’t get the chance to explore the upstairs area, but the restaurant occupies a pretty narrow building.
