Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl – Nintendo Switch – the long anticipated remakes of the Sinnoh games

The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, Creatures Inc. and GAME FREAK inc. have unveiled that the long anticipated remakes for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are coming to the Nintendo Switch in late 2021 as Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

According to the official press release:

Adventures in the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond gamewill take place in the familiar Sinnoh region. Rich in nature and with mighty Mount Coronet at its heart, Sinnoh is a land of many myths passed down through the ages. You’ll choose either Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup to be your first partner Pokémon and then set off on your journey to become the Champion of the Pokémon League. Along the way, you’ll be able to encounter the Legendary Pokémon Dialga.

Adventure together with the Pokémon that appeared in the Pokémon Diamond Version game. Players of the original games can revisit familiar places and relive familiar scenes, while first time players can enjoy plenty of fun encounters and surprises that the Sinnoh region has to offer. The original story and the scale of the Sinnoh region’s towns and routes have been faithfully reproduced. This remake has also been revitalized with some of the player-friendly features of modern Pokémon games and up-close-and-personal Pokémon battle scenes.

Whether you played Pokémon Diamond Version or Pokémon Pearl Version back in the day or you’re encountering these games for the first time, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

It appears from the trailer that the game will take a different approach to Pokemon Sword and Shield. The game will retain the original’s bird’s eye view, the chibi character models and a more faithful recreation of the various towns and routes. While it does appear to be a step back for people enthusiastic to see a modern rendition of the original game, at least the fanbase that craves a faithful recreation should be pleased with this. (I prefer innovation and a new artistic approach, similar to the approach taken by Square Enix for FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE)

That said, the in-battle animation has been given a huge facelift. It looks impressive and hope that we will see more surprises in the way in-game battles will be presented in the major moments in this game, e.g. when battling the legendaries, gyms and the elite four.

In terms of new gimmicks, such as Mega Evolution, Z Moves and Dynamax, and other new features, there seems to be little news on that front. Hopefully we will hear more closer to the release dates. I am hoping we get new Mega Evolutions or evolutions for existing Pokemon.

Pokemon Legends Arceus and New Pokemon Snap were also shown off at the same time. Both games look exciting and interesting.
