Shyun Ramen Bar – Carnegie – down the road from the regular Shyun with just ramen

Along the vibrant Koornang Road, Shyun Ramen Bar serves Japanese ramen with either their signature Tonkotsu or Shoyu soup or sauce in the heart of Carnegie. Conveniently located within walking distance from Carnegie Station, this eatery bar is designed to entice ramen enthusiasts or people looking for comfort food with its promise of exciting flavours and that ramen shop ambiance.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the necessity of jotting down our name and the number of guests, plus our phone number, in a guest logbook—a simple yet effective system to manage the bustling crowd. After a brief wait of around 15 minutes, we received the anticipated call informing us that our table was ready. As we made our way to the rear of the bar, we were pleased to discover additional seating areas in the rear of the restaurant with a bit more space.

Navigating the ordering process was a breeze, thanks to the convenient QR code system in place where the QR code is on the table and you can use your mobile. With a quick scan, we were presented with an array of tantalising options, each seemingly variations on their standard Tonkotsu Ramen and Sauce Ramen with different toppings, more meat, or different soups. We opted for the classic Tonkotsu Ramen priced at $17.50 and the Karaage Sauce Ramen at $16.50.

The Tonkotsu Ramen boasted a rich and savoury broth, perfectly complemented by tender chashu pork and springy noodles. Meanwhile, the Karaage Sauce Ramen offered a delightful fusion of flavours, with the succulent, crispy chicken karaage along with noodles bathed in a luscious sauce that tantalised the taste buds.

To enhance our experience, we availed ourselves to their array of condiments available, including spicy pickled greens and togarashi, allowing us to tailor our ramen to suit our personal preferences. Additionally, the option to self-serve water ensured that our thirst was promptly quenched throughout the meal.

Shyun Ramen Bar is focused on ramen, while Shyun down the road hosts a range of dishes. Both restaurants are usually very popular and may require some waiting. The one you choose depends on your preference on the day. If you want simplicity, I’d go Shyun Ramen Bar but if you want variety than I’d go with Shyun.

I’ve written a review of Shyun here.
