Supanova 2025 Melbourne at Melbourne Showgrounds – big year with Tyler Hoechlin and for us Sarah Natochenny
Supanova Melbourne 2025, held at the Melbourne Showgrounds, was a fantastic celebration of pop culture, anime, comics, and gaming. As long-time fans, we were excited to attend, especially with our four-year-old daughter, making it a great family-friendly event.
The convention featured B-list celebrity guests, including Tyler Hoechlin, Doug Jones, Lloyd Owen, Temuera Morrison, and John Jarratt. However, for us, the highlight was meeting Sarah Natochenny, the voice actress for Ash Ketchum from Pokémon. We paid $75 for a photo op, and it was well worth it for the experience!

Getting There & Entry
Although trains were running and conveniently close to the entrance, we opted to drive and park on-site for $25. This felt expensive, especially considering that a decade ago, it was only $10. In hindsight, we should have taken public transport, which is capped at $11 per person.
We purchased our tickets online for $45.50 per adult, and our daughter attended for free as children under 12 were allowed in at no additional cost. The entry process was seamless—we scanned our tickets, received wristbands, and were quickly inside.

Convention Layout & Attractions
Supanova was well-organised, with the main attractions spread across different areas:
- The Alley & Expo Hall – The heart of the event, packed with vendors and collectibles
- Seminar Studio & Cosplay Theatre – We didn’t explore these, but they were available
- Food Trucks – Scattered across the venue to prevent congestion
We didn’t purchase food because of the insane prices—a simple chicken schnitzel roll with chips was $25! Instead, we focused on enjoying the exhibits and vendors.
The Expo Hall – Shopping & Collectibles
The Expo Hall was filled with vendors selling a wide range of pop culture collectibles. Some of our best finds included:
- Self-Talking Bart Simpson Doll – A fun nostalgic purchase
- Trading Cards – One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokémon
- Crunchyroll Mystery Bags – $100 for two bags (or $65 each), packed with Ichiban Kuji prizes, statues, towels, and even Blu-ray movies! My haul contained Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and My Hero Academia merch—not all my favourites, but still great value.
We also visited the Disney Store inside the convention, which offered:
- Buzz Lightyear figurines
- Lorcana trading cards
- Plush toys
- Disney-themed clothing

Photo Op with Sarah Natochenny (Voice of Ash Ketchum)
Our biggest highlight was the photo op with Sarah Natochenny at 1:50 PM. The queue was well-managed, with most attendees pre-purchasing their tokens online. Even with a pram, the staff handled everything smoothly.
Sarah was incredibly kind and engaging—she even said “I choose you!” in Ash Ketchum’s voice to my daughter, which made her day! Seeing my daughter’s excitement made the $75 photo op completely worth it.
Final Thoughts
Pros:
✔ Great for families – Kids under 12 enter for free!
✔ Well-organised queues & event layout
✔ Diverse vendors with unique collectibles
✔ Smooth photo op experience
✔ Celebrity guests & interactions
Cons:
❌ Expensive on-site parking ($25)
❌ Overpriced food ($25 for a simple meal!)
❌ Some mystery bag items weren’t my favourites
Overall, Supanova Melbourne 2025 was a fantastic experience. Whether you’re a hardcore fan, casual collector, or family looking for a fun day out, this convention delivers!
