Melbourne is a cosmopolitan city, having many walks of life from around the world represented. Different parts of the city offer certain cuisines, for example Springvale is home to Vietnamese cuisine, Oakleigh is Greek cuisine and Dandenong has lots of Afghan and Indian cuisine. Glen Waverley is a special place for young people, it’s an awesome hang out spot because it is easy to reach thanks to its train station and its ability to offer so much to so many people, from bowling, cinemas, restaurants, bars and even karaoke.
Glen Waverley is home to so many things from Hong Kong and obviously more, so I have compiled a list of restaurants that I think represent the best that this area has to offer. I have excluded any dessert only options such as Scoopy Milk Tea and Gong Cha.
Here is my list of the top 10 restaurants in alphabetical order:
- Haidilao Hot Pot
- Ichi Katsu and Marble Yakiniku
- Kimchi Hut
- Laksa King
- Piatella
- Rock Kung
- San Ai Cho
- Shujinko
- The Black Toro
- The Grand Tofu
1. Haidilao Hot Pot
This restaurant hails from mainland China and it’s service is excellent. Although the food is expensive, Haidilao a great experience and the hot pot soups are genuinely really tasty!
2. Ichi Katsu and Marble Yakiniku
I have paired these sisters restaurants together. Ichi Katsu is focused on deep fried crumbled meat, while Marble Yakiniku is the more elegant, expensive Japanese barbecue option. Depending on your budget, choose the one that can feed the family.
3. Kimchi Hut
I love their sweet corn tea. If Korean food is up your alley, you ought to eat at Kimchi Hut. It usually busy on Friday and Saturdays, so bookings are highly recommended.
4. Laksa King
If you want simple, no fuss, or close to Glen Waverley Station. I recommend giving Laksa King a try, their laksa variety are excellent.
5. Piatella
This is a go-to for so many people looking for dessert or coffee. Piatella is next to the cinemas.
6. Rock Kung
This is an institution. It’s been around since as long as I can remember. Rock Kung‘s menu is extensive but they seem to get everything right. I highly recommend getting their char siu pork.
7. San Ai Cho
I visited San Ai Cho when it first opened. It remains popular and is a great choice for those who want all-you-can-eat Japanese and Chinese cuisine. I recommend ordering everything you want early, because it can take time for the next round to come. You can read about my second trip to this restaurant here.
8. Shujinko
I just love Shujinko’s ramen. The soup is tasty. I also love their yaki ramen because it’s full of awesome flavors and their tsukemen (dipping ramen) has an excellent serving of both noodles and pork pieces in the broth.
9. The Black Toro
One of few non-Asian restaurants in the area. I really liked Black Toro‘s Tres Leches cake and their tacos. It doesn’t seem to open on Sundays and doesn’t stay open late.
10. The Grand Tofu
If you want affordable Asian food, look no further than The Grand Tofu. I love their six dumpling option where you can choose your noodles, soup base and any six super-stuffed dumplings.
