50 Lan – Kaohsiung – affordable, iconic, everywhere in Taiwan

50 Lan is one of Taiwan’s most iconic and beloved bubble tea chains, and it’s not hard to see why. With over 30 years of history and a strong foothold across the country, this brand has mastered the art of delivering consistent, high-quality bubble tea that appeals to all ages. During our recent visit to Kaohsiung, we encountered multiple 50 Lan outlets—particularly near major hubs like Formosa Boulevard Station, where one sits conveniently just outside Exit 7.

The popularity of 50 Lan isn’t just anecdotal. In 2023, it was the most discussed bubble tea brand in Taiwan and led the market in sales. Locals consistently praise it for its reliable flavor and variety, and that certainly matched our experience. It’s a go-to option whether you’re a die-hard bubble tea fan or just looking to cool down in Taiwan’s warm climate.

We tried their Oat Black Tea Latte, which was a unique and surprisingly refreshing drink featuring oat grains (not oat milk), and the Black Tea Latte, both of which were smooth, balanced, and perfectly sweetened. One of the standout benefits of ordering at 50 Lan was the availability of an English menu, which made the experience incredibly accessible for non-Mandarin speakers like us.

Beyond the taste, the price was a welcome surprise—our medium-sized drinks came in at around ~A$2.50, a fraction of what we’d typically pay back in Australia. That kind of value, combined with a strong brand legacy and consistent quality, easily cements 50 Lan as a must-visit for anyone wanting an authentic bubble tea experience in Taiwan.
