During our stay in Kaohsiung, we discovered Shantou Chuan Cheng Hotpot Zhongshan Main Restaurant, renowned for its flavorful satay broth and extensive menu. Located just a 2-minute walk from Formosa Boulevard Station’s Exit 11, its proximity to the vibrant Liuhe Night Market adds to its appeal.

We visited without a reservation and were promptly seated, a testament to the restaurant’s efficient service. For our family of four, the total bill was NTD$1,749 (approximately AU$85), offering great value for the quality and quantity of food. Plus, we felt like we over ordered.

The highlight was the signature satay soup base, rich and aromatic, complemented by complimentary edamame, satay sauce, and fresh herbs. We selected a variety of ingredients, including lamb, pork, baby corn, fish dumplings, and greens. While most items were delightful, we found the offal and duck’s blood less appealing, possibly due to preparation preferences.

The restaurant’s ambiance combines traditional decor with a spacious layout, enhancing the dining experience. It’s a popular spot, so reservations are recommended during peak hours. Note that the establishment operates on a cash-only basis, so plan accordingly.

Overall, Shantou Chuan Cheng Hotpot offers an authentic taste of Taiwanese hotpot cuisine, blending rich flavors with attentive service. It’s a culinary experience that shouldn’t be missed when in Kaohsiung.
