Conservatory at Crown – South Bank, Melbourne – all you can eat at the casino complex with some views of the Yarra River

Crown offers heaps of fine dining experiences for those with deep pockets or are willing to shell a bit of money for a special occasion. Not all fine dining experiences are equal, but The Conservatory is an all you can eat buffet with a great selection. If you stay at Crown Towers, you may be lucky to enjoy a buffet breakfast at The Conservatory as part of your room rate otherwise it’s about AUD$50 per adult. Alternatively, you can book lunch or dinner session.

The rates vary depending on whether you choose breakfast, lunch or dinner and whether it is from Monday to Thursday or from Friday to Sunday. The menu is different for each session. The best and largest options are reserved for dinner for Friday to Sunday sessions.

If the price turns you off, there is another all you can eat buffet at Crown called Kitchen Workshop which is $35 per adult and offers decent food (and seafood if you shell out a little extra), but if you want to take it to the next level with fine dining all you can eat then it has to be at The Conservatory.

I can imagine a lot of kids (and children stuck in adult bodies) being excited to see this milk and white chocolate fountain at the Conservatory

For dinner, it costs AUD$105 per adult from Monday to Thursday and $135 from Friday to Sunday. Also from Friday to Sunday there are two session bookings. It used to be $90 per adult from Monday to Thursday but prices have gone up since the pandemic. You will need to book in advance and it tends to be booked out on special days like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

The interior is fancy. Most of the tables overlook south bank and it’s view of the river and Melbourne cityscape. If you arrive at the right time you can even catch the fire display along the river walk. The tableware and cutlery are nice and usually the service is okay, but it can be a hit and miss depending on the number of people on staff and guests.

There is so much to choose from. They have plenty of seafood like tiger prawns, oysters, mussels, crabs, clams, scallops and heaps of salads and sauces to go with the seafood. There is even Japanese (with sushi and sahimi), Western (with soups, roast meats and lobster), Italian (with pizza and pasta) and Asian (with soups, peking duck, dim sum, stir fried dishes, and Indian tandoor and curries). Plus there is a huge selection of desserts like chocolate cheesecake, strawberry tarts and crepe.

Plus the chocolate fountain with strawberries, marshmallows, brownies, marcaroons, ice-cream and sorbet, and a selection of cheese and crackers.

I really enjoyed the pudding with the various toppings like the caramelized banana and custard. That was super tasty.

Most of the seafood was fresh and easy to eat. There were plenty of sauces and other condiments like lemons, etc to go with it. I tended to stir away from the woks because some of the things had been sitting around too long.

My tip for buffet is to eat the things you like and leave things like bread, noodles and pasta for another day (or at least keep them to a minimum). Go for the roast beef, oysters, sashimi and peking duck and get your moneys worth.

If you are keen to try a fine dining all you can eat buffet, I recommend visiting the Conservatory at Crown. It offers a great selection of food along with plenty of desserts and salivating dishes. It’s not the only fine dining all you can eat buffet in Melbourne but it is probably the most well-known.

The Conservatory is located upstairs from the main action on Level 1 at Crown Casino at 8 Whiteman Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3006:
