David & Camy Dumpling Restaurant in Box Hill is an institution. It’s been around for so long that it’s a must visit for anyone wanting affordable Asian cuisine in the area. The menu is stock-standard for Asian restaurant with dumplings, rice, noodles and sharing dishes. One thing customers have to do is try their pan fried dumplings. The crispy base is done perfectly and the filling is exciting and tasty!
Highlights | Must try their pan fried dumplings, I usually go with their Chicken and Prawn Dumplings for $13.5 |
Cost | $12.5 for Steamed Dumplings $13.5 for Pan Fried Dumplings |
Location | 605 Station Street, Box Hill VIC 3128 |
It can be a real pain trying to find free car parking in Box Hill. There are side car parks with two hour limits but they are few and far between. The main shopping centre car parking is larger, but feels and looks like a haunted and gloomy cave, and yet you have to pay for the privilege of parking in it even if its for a few minutes. The reason there is paid parking is that the shopping centre is also where Box Hill Station is located. I recommend parking a little further away, closer to the residential areas.
I used to frequent David & Camy Dumpling Restaurant a lot back in 2013 and 2014 when I ordered boxes of their steamed and pan fried dumplings with colleagues at the office. Even now, the pan fried dumplings are spectacular and an absolute must try! The base of the dumplings are crispy and the fillings are oozing with tastiness and flavour.
There is a choice of steamed dumplings for $12.5 with 15 pieces of pork dumplings or as little as 10 pieces of chicken and prawn dumplings. Better yet, you can just spend an extra dollar at $13.5 for the superior pan fried dumplings.
Overall the whole menu is affordable and hasn’t changed much since my earlier days.
Experience at David & Camy Dumpling Restaurant
In addition to their Pan Fried Chicken and Prawn Dumplings for $13.5, we ordered their Preserved Vegetables with Sliced Pork Noodle Soup for $12.5 and their Sweet Sour & Spicy Sliced Pork on Rice for $13.5. Both dishes were fantastic and particularly so for the price.
The Sweet Sour & Spicy Sliced Pork on Rice was a combination of honey and chili rolled into one. It was a delicious dish that seems easy to make, but definitely is a work of perfection by the kitchen.
The Preserved Vegetables with Sliced Pork Noodle Soup was packed with slice pork and pickled cabbage. They were a delight. The soup was nice and tasty. The noodles, I felt, were slightly overcooked on the day but still good.
