Lulu’s Char Koay Teow – Melbourne – famous fried noodles in busy Hardware Lane

Lulu’s Char Koay Teow in Hardware Lane is always bustling with people. You can either order for takeaway or put your name on the waiting list. It takes longer to get a table if you are in a larger group, but groups of 2 or less tend to be seated a lot faster if you don’t mind sitting outside.

HighlightsYou have to try the original Lulu’s Char Koay Teow. There are varying options, including the option to add duck egg, jumbo prawns or changing the noodles to egg noodles instead of flat rice noodles.

The menu is purely focused on noodles. You choose your own foundation, between flat rice noodles or Hokkien egg noodles, and the spicy level. Even at the milder end, I found the noodles to still be relatively spicy. I can’t imagine how spicy extra hot is.

On being seated, I had to remember the table number and queue/order/pay inside the restaurant at the counter. Very typical of Malaysian and Singaporean restaurants, you usually have to pay for your meal before the order is brought to you. I was given a plastic cup to help myself to water. My plate of noodles only took a few minutes to come.

Try Lulu’s Char Koay Teow, it’s all you need

I ordered Lulu’s Char Koay Teow for $16.90. It was incredible char kway teow. The noodles were infused with a delicious sauce. Eat bite was packed with delicious flavours and textures such as the chives, bean spouts and Chinese sausage. The noodles were delicious and well worth it.

This restaurant is usually packed for lunch and dinner for good reason. If you are in the area, I highly recommend giving Lulu’s Char Koay Teow a shot.
