MKS Spices’n Things – Dandenong – hidden in plain sight delicious takeaway curries, dosa, vada, samosa and more

There are a few MKS Spices’n Things around Melbourne in Dandenong, St Albans and Preston. Until a friend told me, I didn’t know about this place and it’s enormous takeaway outlet and the fame within the community associated with its delicious fried snacks from vada, samosa to all kinds of rolls and curries. At the same time, you can shop for groceries here.

On the outside to MKS Spices’n Things on Pultney Street, Dandenong it can be hard to notice the incredible takeaway section in the back of this grocery store. It’s a very popular lunch destination for people working in the area, like lawyers and court staff at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court, and locals.

The whole ordering process can be quite daunting for new people and particular people not familiar with the cuisine. If it’s your first time, just order five vada for around $4 and ask for the curry and rice option for around $14. The signage and prices are all over the shop. But you can rest easy that you won’t be paying a ridiculous amount. (Back in the day, things used to be ridiculously cheaper, like under $10 for rice and curries.)

I highly recommend ordering some of the fried snacks, you can choose any five vada, which are savoury fried snacks native to South India, for $3.95. The snacks come with its own sauce. (Be mindful that almost everything has a spicy kick to it.)

Experience so much choice and variety as you head towards the takeaway section

You can also order rice and curry. The standard rice, either standard or biryani, comes with one meat curry and two vegetable curries for $13.95. The food is slightly oily, very spicy, but full of delicious spices and flavours. I’m always keen to revisit this store and grab takeaway.

Unfortunately, if you want to dine in at MKS Spices’n Things in Dandenong there aren’t any tables in the store. But you can probably find a table at Dandenong Plaza if you don’t mind the walk.
