The Sunny Cafe – Springvale – Taiwanese street food cafe

Tucked away on Balmoral Avenue in Springvale, The Sunny Café is a small but longstanding establishment specialising in Taiwanese street food. Open only on select days—Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday—this café can be tricky to catch open, but it’s well worth the visit for those seeking authentic and homely Taiwanese flavours. With just four tables inside, it’s not suited for large groups but makes for an ideal spot for solo diners or a quick, casual meal.

The menu offers a variety of Taiwanese comfort food staples, including Braised Pork on Rice ($12 for a large), Taiwanese Beef Noodles ($15), Taiwanese Sausage on Rice ($15), and Fried Pork Chop Bento ($15). Over several visits, I’ve had the pleasure of trying their Braised Pork on Rice, Pork Trotters on Rice, and Fried Chicken Chop on Rice—all of which were excellent. The dishes have a rustic, home-cooked feel, making them deeply satisfying.

A Satisfying Meal Every Time

Most recently, I opted for the Fried Pork Chop Bento, which came with pickled cabbage, pork mince, and gravy under a crispy, golden-brown pork chop. The balance of textures and flavours was spot on, offering both crunch and tenderness in every bite. Service is simple but efficient, with the server happy to provide a cup of water when requested.

For those who love traditional Taiwanese comfort food, The Sunny Café is a must-visit. While the small space may not accommodate larger groups, its warm, authentic meals make it a great choice for a quick and satisfying bite.
