Hong Kong Best Food – Mt Waverley – on the High Street and being simple, easy and accessible
Hong Kong Best Food is located at the corner of High Street and Blackburn Road in Mount Waverley. The restaurant’s interior immediately transports diners to the vibrant streets of Hong Kong, with walls adorned with iconic street signs with catchy phrases, neon signs, and posters of classic Hong Kong movies. However, the space is quite small and crammed, reminiscent of authentic Hong Kong eateries.

The menu offers a delightful array of Hong Kong fare, blending Chinese and Western influences. Staples like pineapple buns, baked pasta, and hearty noodle dishes showcase the city’s unique culinary culture. The lunch menu, priced at $17.80, provides great value with most menu items accompanied by a complimentary hot or cold drink.

What We Ordered
- Beef Brisket Curry with Spaghetti ($19): Served in separate bowls for the curry and spaghetti, this dish delivered a satisfying spicy kick. The tender beef brisket paired well with the al dente spaghetti, and the separation allowed for better flavor control.
- Cart Noodles ($18): This comforting bowl featured sliced beef, fried chicken, and fish cakes. The broth was rich and flavorful, and removing the fried chicken early kept the crispy batter intact.
- Ovaltine Milo French Toast with Ice Cream ($14): A standout dessert, this thick toast was topped with cheese, Milo crisps, and Ovaltine. Inside, peanut butter and melted cheese created a decadent combination, complemented by a scoop of ice cream for a refreshing finish.

Service and Convenience
A self-serve station offering jasmine tea, water, and various condiments like soy sauce, chili oil, and sweet chili enhances the dining experience. It’s a thoughtful addition, allowing diners to customize their meals to their liking.

Overall Impression
Hong Kong Best Food offers a nostalgic and authentic dining experience that’s hard to find outside Hong Kong itself. While the cramped space may not appeal to everyone, the quality and variety of dishes more than compensate. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick lunch or a leisurely meal, this spot is well worth a visit for its genuine Hong Kong flavours and atmosphere.
