As a local in Melbourne, I frequent the busy Kingsway in Glen Waverley. It is a busy place for foodies at almost all times of the hour. Glen Waverley’s Kingsway is home to so many restaurant on either side of the road and some restaurant off the beaten track.
It’s a brutal area to be operating a restaurant, because its literally an area packed with restaurants that are competing against each other day in day out. Each restaurant has to be able to cover the high rents and become well respected establishments in the area. That means, restaurants that want to stick around need to provide good food at a reasonable prices or be one of those restaurants/businesses that joins the rank of former businesses. The high turnover in this area is no joke.
I think this place has no concern and has in a sense become an establishment.
I think Glenny Kebabs provides good food at a reasonable price for Glen Waverley. It is evident that this restaurant draws quite the crowd as every time I visit, there is always groups of people congregating around the counter either waiting or waiting to make an order. It was also very clear that many people were ordering using various delivery services like UberEats.
Glenny Kebabs is a business owned by a former Glen Waverley Secondary College alumni, who decided at a young age to open a kebab store. This kebob store originally was a caravan on the side of the road. It has since evolved due to its popularity, into a fully feldged store within Glen Waverley’s Century City Walk (home to Strike Bowling and Village Cinemas).
The menu is exactly what you would expect at a kebab store. You can order kebabs, snack packs, falafel and dinner packs. All the prices are very reasonable for this suburb. Kebabs start at $10 and dinner packs go up to $25. There is also the option of buying dessert like waffles, donut fries, ice-cream, etc.
I opted for the Middle East Feast with a mix of chicken and lamb meat with breads, rice, salad and two dips (spicy capsicum and tzatziki). I also bought a side of falafel, which came with hummus dip, and also some donut fries with chocolate sauce.
The whole meal was great value and filling for two people. It probably would have fed three people to satisfaction. All up, I paid $38 for everything, minus the boba (which I bought separately at Chatime).
I loved the combination of meats with the rice and salad. The breads were well toasted and soft in the middle. The sauces were great additions for us to dip out bread into. I particularly liked the spicy capsicum. The falafel was nice and crunchy on the outside.
The surprising dish was the donut fries, which had that donut crispiness to it. It looked and felt like a french fry/chip, but tasted exactly like a donut. It was excellent.
