Oakleigh has changed a lot since 2005 when it was almost empty except for a few great Greek restaurants. Now there are even more Greek restaurants, the vibe and nightlife is much more entertaining and busy. It’s become a great place to visit for lunch and dinner.
Just off the main center is Il Maestro Pizza, which serves excellent Italian pizza with the traditional pizza base. The pizza base is almost like eating a delicious warm, wholesome pita bread.
The restaurant is very small. The main option is to do takeaway, but there is a small area where people can dine-in. This restaurant won’t work with big crowds, but one or two people will be fine.
We ordered their BBQ Pizza for AUD$18 and their Rigatoni Alla Matriciana for $24. The rigatoni came with pancetta, charred red capsicum, onion and chili in homemade napoli sauce. The pizza had juicy, succulent chicken pieces and each slice was perfect. The rigatoni came with parmesan and was cooked really nicely with an addictive hint of chili.
The food was overall really nice and it is evident why this place is highly rated and loved by locals.
I think it a good location for dates or special occasions thanks to its nice set-up and ambience.
