Bibelot – South Melbourne – my favorite dessert café in Melbourne and it’s so close to the famous South Melbourne Market

Bibelot is a popular destination for dessert lovers in Melbourne’s south-east. It is filled cakes, macarons and other delicious sweets. You can taste all the savory stuff close by visiting Chez Dre or the South Melbourne Market.

You can order some really nice ice-cream, including gelato or sorbet (without the diary). They have pistachio, yoghurt & berry, vanilla & chocolate chip, green tea and hazelnut crumble. It is $5 for one scoop, $7 for two scoops, $9 for 3 scoops and $11 for 4 scoops. They have some incredible flavored and remember coming here during hot work days for a nice ice-cream.

Their cakes are what make them famous and they change from time to time. Most of the cakes go for around $9 to $11. Due to the constant rotation in cakes, it’s always worth coming back to see what is on the menu. They are also good to take-away.

If I can, I normally order a cake and a drink. When I come with my better half, I usually order a few cakes and share them so that I can try various flavors.

My favorite cake is their Jasmine & Lychee Petit Gâteaux. It contains jasmine tea mousse, lychee compote, lychee creme, almond financier sponge, buckwheat sable and saké jelly for $10.90.

They have a decent drinks menu, with both hot and cold options. They serve their drinks and dessert in some really nice tableware and cups. Their matcha latte is pretty decent for $5.50.

On the day, I ordered their Xmas cake, which was a Chocolate, Coconut and Cherry. This had chocolate and cherry mousse, cherry, dark chocolate ganache, coconut sponge and chocolate biscuit. This cake was $10.50. It was a chocolate-ty cake, with mousse in the middle and a hard biscuit base. You need a fork to properly eat it, since only a fork can pierce through the base. It was sugary and perfect for the occasion.

Bibelot also serve high tea with a booking for $69 per person. The high tea comes with a selection of savory sandwiches and canapes, mini Bibelot desserts, buttermilk scones with jam and cream and a choice of coffee or tea.

Bibelot is located in South Melbourne at 285-287 Coventry Street, South Melbourne VIC 3205:
