Vlado’s Charcoal Grill on Bridge Road can be easy to miss. It’s signage and frontage is small and quaint. It’s been around a while serving fantastic steaks, delicious beef pieces, and excellent garden salad and coleslaw. The service is also fantastic!

A friend of mine had talked about Vlado’s and their fond memories of it. It’s an institution and one much loved by Melburnians. I didn’t need much more than that recommendation to check it out for myself with some folks.
Valdo’s is located on Bridge Road and is close to Punt Road. Reaching it by tram is possible as well as a short walk from West Richmond or Richmond train stations.
The restaurant is a small, double storey restaurant. On my visit, I was lucky enough to be seated upstairs and we had the whole area to ourselves. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very lovely.
For dinner there is only the set menu for $125 per person. It’s quite expensive for a meal, but it’s worthwhile doing every now and then on a special occasion.
It’s a meatfest, but one that will be enjoyable!

The garden salad and coleslaw is excellent! It went well with everything.
The sauces on the table are limited to horseradish and mustard, no tomato sauce. It’s all you really need. The assortment of meat came with different parts of beef, including kidney.
When it came time to select the main steak, they came upstairs to show us the options. I picked the porterhouse steak over the eye fillet. Both looked great. The porterhouse was one of the best I’d ever had.
The strawberry crepes were really good! It came with ice-cream and cream.
