It’s obvious that Alleyway Kitchen is the most popular food stall on the ground floor at M-City. There is usually someone at the counter picking and choosing their plated meal. There are plenty of excellent Chinese cuisine to choose from, including honey chicken, beef and black bean, and sweet and sour fish. The options rotate, so you can expect changes from time to time.

There are a few Alleyway Kitchens around Melbourne, including at Melbourne Central. Alleyway Kitchen offers the quick to order plated meal where you can choose either a small or large plate for $13.80 or $15.80 respectively which comes with rice or noodles and a selection of any two or three side dishes. The side dishes range from deep fried dishes (sweet and sour pork and honey chicken), spicy dishes (spicy fish and spicy chicken offal), stir fries (Mongolian beef and beef and black bean), and slow cooked (beef brisket).
If you pay cash, it is 5% off the bill. So if you want the $15.80 plate, you only pay $15.
There is also a cook to order menu too, which offers some exciting options. There are noodle soups and main dishes to share with a larger group.
An easy option if you want good Chinese cuisine and fast
I chose their fried rice dish along with their beef brisket, spicy chicken offal and honey chicken. I paid $15 in cash. And added their chili oil on the side.
I just sat at one of the many tables within the food court and enjoyed the plated meal. For $15, it was pretty good to have a few options on the plate and was filling.
