Having a home along Clayton Road, Chayo stands out as a destination for Japanese beverage appreciators, offering a delightful array of matcha and hojicha flavours that satisfy the cravings. My recent visit to Chayo left me thoroughly impressed, as I savoured their Matcha Latte and enjoyed the welcoming ambiance.
Upon entering Chayo, I was greeted by a charming interior that exuded Japanese flair with its simplicity and focus on creating empty, meaningful spaces, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. The venue buzzed with activity, attesting to its popularity among locals seeking a refreshing respite from the hustle and bustle of Clayton Road. From what I could see, many of the patrons were enjoy a meal and a drink. And it’s a common thing to see each of the many times I’ve visited this establishment.

The star attractions at Chayo are undoubtedly their matcha and hojicha flavour beverages, and are locally regarded for their quality. I had the pleasure of sampling their Ichigo Matcha (Strawberry Green Tea) and Chocolate Matcha, priced together for $15.80.
The Ichigo Matcha, infused with homemade strawberry jam, was a revelation—a harmonious blend of sweet and earthy notes that danced on the palate with every sip. It was almost like a delicious strawberry jam and was similar to the strawberry syrup in McDonald’s sundaes but way better and clearly made in store than store bought. The Chocolate Matcha, on the other hand, boasted a rich and indulgent chocolate flavor, perfectly complementing the subtle bitterness of the matcha.
In addition to their outstanding beverages, Chayo also offers a variety of savoury all-day breakfast options to complement the drinks, further enhancing the overall dining experience. It’s no wonder the venue is often abuzz with patrons eager to indulge in their exciting offerings.
One of the highlights of my visit was the warm hospitality extended by the staff, who greeted guests with genuine warmth and hospitality. Their fluency in Japanese added an authentic touch to the experience, further elevating the ambiance of Chayo. Plus sometimes they have newcomers, but even the newcomers who serve you have that typical Japanese politeness – it makes you wonder what Western countries need to do to educate our youngsters with politeness and courtesy.
Chayo stands out as a fantastic option along Clayton Road, offering a haven for Japanese beverage enthusiasts and culinary adventurers alike. With its exceptional drinks, inviting ambiance, and friendly staff, Chayo promises a delightful dining experience that leaves a lasting impression. Whether you’re in the mood for a refreshing matcha creation or simply seeking a welcoming retreat, Chayo is a worthwhile destination in Clayton.
