Colombian Tojos at Dandenong Market is centrally located in the main eatery area. The stall is manned by one person who practically does all the preparation, cooking, and taking orders. The menu sometimes has a few extra things but mainly consists of the arepa (corn cakes with cheese), lechona (rice and pork stuffed in pig skin), and empanadas.

Colombian Tojos was manned by one person in a sombrero. He was practically a one man show and was polite and seemed very hard working. On seeing this, I decided I needed to show some support, but also I found the whole Lechona at the front of the stall too interesting to ignore.
I ordered their Arepas with Lechona for $22 which came with their Arepas – panned fried corn cake – with the Lechona – rice with pork and avocado on top. The Arepas is a corn cake. The cake was okay only on the parts that had crisped up, but the non crisped up parts wasn’t as exciting. The topping of the stuffing from the Lechona was nice, but wished I could have more of it. Luckily I could spoon a good helping of the handmade chili sauce.
The stand has a bowl of hot chili sauce that you can help yourself to. This homemade chili sauce was really nice, and only a little bit spicy. The stall owner told me to just help myself.
On another occasion, I ordered his 3x Empanadas for $19 which came with salsa sauce. The empanadas shells were really nice, tasting like a better version of corn chips, while in the stuffing was nice and pipping hot with meat and potatoes. It was a very different kind of empanadas than I was familiar with, but it made me think this was the preferable version.
Although $19 is quite a high price and the sauces provided with the empanadas not quite sticking to the units themselves, it was a pleasantly worthwhile experience.
