Ducklicious – Clayton – rice noodle rolls, Teochew dishes

Ducklicious is located along Clayton Road. It seems to be quite popular on a Saturday night. The restaurant offers a range of Teochew style dishes, with a particular focus on duck. I recommend the Beef Offal Soup and Steam Rolled Noodles if you visit.

HighlightsA restaurant focused on Teochew dishes and in particular Teochew Style Duck. I prefer the steam rolled noodles more than the duck dishes.

We visited on a Saturday night and Ducklicious was packed with diners. We had to wait a good 10 minutes before we could get a table even though it was 6:30 PM. Even then, our table was next to the automatic sliding doors so we got a whiff of the cold winter’s air every time it opened.

The menu is Teochew focused with lots of dishes reflecting the Teochew (Chinese) cuisine. It offers things like Peach Sticky Rice Cake, Leek Dumpling, Turnip Cake, and so many more things.

When we were ready to order, we had to order and pay at the counter at the rear of the restaurant. We also had to serve ourselves with water or hot tea from their station in the middle of the restaurant.

We ordered their Teochew Duck with Satay Noodles for $23, Beef and Offal Soup with Hand-pulled Noodles for $23, and their Steamed Rolled Rice Noodles with Pork for $12.

Their Teochew Duck with Satay Noodles came with a really good serving of braised duck with sauce and pak choy, and a separate bowl with satay noodles topped with bean shoots. I found the noodles to be quite nice, but needed to drink water after some bitefuls because the satay, peanut sauce really stuck to the walls of the mouth. The Teochew Duck was nice with the sauce, but I would have much preferred the Hong Kong style Roast Duck with the crispy skin.

The Beef and Offal Soup come with a nice serving of melt-in-the-mouth beef brisket and tripe along with some hand-pulled noodles. All the elements were well done, but I would have liked to have some more soup in the bowl.

The Steamed Rolled Rice Noodles with Pork was probably the best of all the dishes. It was packed with delicious bits and pieces all wrapped together in a silky rice noodles and topped with a sweet, soy sauce.
