Final Fantasy XVI – 9 December 2022 – Revenge trailer and release date

At the Game Awards 2022, Final Fantasy XVI’s Revenge Trailer was released on Friday, 9 December 2022, and has managed to stun the internet with its incredible set pieces, from incredible cinematics to captivating gameplay. The trailer was presented by the game’s director Naoki Yoshida. In the trailer, we see moments where Clive is fighting huge enemies with a party of characters, other characters welding the powers of the Eikon, and incredible Eikon versus Eikon battles.

The trailer gives the release date for this game as 22 June 2023. Let’s hope the game is able to stick to that date, because I am sure that many people will be looking to take some time off work to play this incredible game on its release.

This will be the first main line game that isn’t an online RPG directed by the famed Naoki Yoshida. Having played Final Fantasy XIV where Yoshi-P, as he is well known, presided over its revival and triumph I am hopeful this game will be worth the experience. Already the story between Clive and his younger brother Joshua is intriguing and the focus on Eikon has me hooked.

In addition to the Revenge trailer, Square Enix also unveiled the placeholder box art for the game on the PlayStation 5. As most would know, Final Fantasy XVI is exclusive to the PlayStation 5. The game will also be released with a Collector’s Edition which comes with the following:

  • Collector’s Box – A beautiful metallic-sheen box featuring impressive artwork by legendary Final Fantasy series illustrator, Yoshitaka Amano
  • Final Fantasy XVI Game – Base game package, including reversible cover art
  • Premium Statue – Phoenix vs Ifrit – A premium statue depicting a battle between two Eikons – Phoenix and Ifrit
  • Metal Eikon Pin Collection – A premium metal pin collection featuring eight Eikons
  • Special Clive Rosfield SteelBook Case – A SteelBook case featuring artwork of Clive Rosfield, the protagonist
  • Cloth World Map of Valisthea – A cloth map of Valisthea where the story unfolds
  • Blood Sword (Weapon) DLC – The fabled scarlet steel of Firion, hero of Final Fantasy II

The Collector’s Edition will be available via the Square Enix store, and whether it will be available at other brick and mortar retail stores is yet to be announced.
