Fortune Alley – Melbourne – choose your own adventure meals

Fortune Alley in Melbourne is located in several locations in the central business district. I am aware of their storefronts on Swanston Street towards the State Library and on Elizabeth Street towards Flinders Street Station. A common sight at their take-out joint are the swarms of hungry customers looking for something quick, simple and exciting.

This a place for a quick meal. There isn’t much more to comment about its dining experience.

I’ve visited both the Swanston Street and Elizabeth Street locations for both dine-in and takeaway. The dine-in option means very cramped spaces, where you can help yourself to water, and may need to sit on a tiny bench with another solo traveler. Sometimes you can grab one of their fortune cookies if you are lucky to spot them.

When ordering, it’s best to bring cash because I found the surcharges to be annoying and hefty.

What makes this place exciting is that you simply don’t know what they will have on offer in their bain-marie. And there always seems to be enough variety to keep people like me keen to try as much as possible.

When ordering, I tend to go for their Large Combo for $16.80 with generally fried rice (but their noodles is good too) and tend to order their Beef Brisket dish, Honey Chicken, Spicy Chicken Giblets and Pork’s Blood, and Spiced Chicken Wings. You can also order from their menu if you want to wait.

In the photo above, I’ve got their Large Combo with Popcorn Chicken, Spicy Basa Fillets, Braised Pork and Noodles.

I find the location is attractive mainly because of its good lighting and trendy looking signs and menu. Otherwise it sort of makes you order how these sorts of places, which are generally at all hawker food centres in big shopping centres are not as possible as this joint. But somehow this has worked and its incredible.

I am normally very satisfied after each experience. I recommend giving this place a go when you want a quick meal – because everything is already prepared.
