There are plenty of directions you can take to get out of Melbourne and enjoy the non-urban lifestyle. Daylesford and Hepburn Spring happen to be one of those places where you are just far enough to enjoy the idyllic Australian countryside. The countryside in Australia can mean being surrounded by desert, but fortunately Victoria has plenty of lush areas to visit and explore.
While you are in the area, you can plan a visit Lake Daylesford (for a nice stroll), the Amazing Mills Market (for some trash and treasure finds), Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm (for lunch and garden exploration) and weekend markets.
It is a good more than 1 hour and a half to drive from Melbourne to Hepburn Springs. Hepburn Spring is north west of the city. The nearby town of Daylesford is also combined with a trip to Hepburn Springs given their close proximity. There are many famous retreats, restaurants and bathhouses to visit in this area. When choosing you mode of transport, it’s best to drive to Hepburn Springs, because buses and trains are pretty much non-existent out in the countryside.
We arrived in the mid-afternoon at our Hepburn at Hepburn Springs villa. The entry is simple enough and has its own private carpark. You need to ensure you park in the correct spot, which will be given to you a few days before your arrival. We visited the reception area where bottles of water and ice were available to guests and were given the keys to our home for the next three days.
The room was a self contained unit with pretty much everything you would need for a short vacation away from home. It has toilets, showers, a private spa, kitchen and lounge. The only thing you need to bring is your own food and entertainment and also some rubbish bags to take your rubbish back home.
The room has a see through bathroom, so you will need to be comfortable with your other half when staying in this accommodation. From the spa, you can watch television, but you might have trouble hearing the television. The television has Netflix to keep you entertained. The downside for us was that we couldn’t see the television when we were in bed (because there is a wall that separates the bedroom from the lounge).
To give you an idea of the cost, all up we paid around AUD$850 via Booking.com for three nights. It makes out to be around AUD$280 per night. This price reflected peak holiday season and us staying over the course of a weekend.
If you are interested, the Hepburn Springs Bathhouse and Spa is within walking distance to the villa. Visit for a spa and/or massage. The facilities were pretty modern and contemporary. It wasn’t a huge complex, but it was surprisingly better than I thought.
Hepburn at Hepburn Springs is located north of Daylesford and close to Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa:
