Hyatt Hotel Canberra – luxury hotel close to Capital Hill and the High Court
The Hyatt Canberra is one of the most prestigious hotels in the Australian capital, offering a blend of historical charm and modern luxury. Conveniently located within walking distance of Parliament House, the High Court, Old Parliament House, and Capital Hill, it provides an ideal stay for visitors looking to be close to the heart of political power in Canberra.
From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the grandeur of the property. While it initially appears to be a single-storey building, the hotel actually spans four levels with an impressive number of rooms and open spaces. My stay was on the second floor, which essentially serves as the ground level, providing easy access to the main areas of the hotel.

Ambience and First Impressions
The reception area is vast and inviting, leading seamlessly into a bar with two beautiful courtyards on either side. The breakfast buffet area is also connected to this space, making for a well-integrated, open design that enhances the overall experience.
In the evenings, I spent some time in the courtyards, which were beautifully lit with hanging lights that added a touch of elegance to the atmosphere. The presence of a robotic mower caught my attention—a modern touch that maintains the pristine lawns effortlessly. Luckily, during my stay, we enjoyed clear, rain-free nights, allowing for a stunning view of the stars, which only added to the serene ambience.
Rooms and Amenities
My room was spacious and well-appointed, offering all the luxuries expected of a five-star hotel:
- A large, comfortable bed with premium linens ensured a great night’s sleep.
- The temperature control worked flawlessly, maintaining a perfect climate throughout my stay.
- I appreciated the coffee machine and a variety of tea options, along with complimentary bottled water.
However, I was slightly disappointed with the mini bar, which felt underwhelming compared to the high standards set by the rest of the room.

Bathroom Experience
The bathroom was another highlight, featuring:
- A high-quality shower head with excellent water pressure.
- A spacious bathtub, perfect for relaxation after a long day of sightseeing or business meetings.
Dining Experience
Breakfast Buffet
The breakfast buffet provided a great mix of options, with guests having the choice to either partake in the buffet or order à la carte.
- The continental buffet was priced at $45 per person, featuring fresh salads, yoghurts, and traditional hot breakfast items like hash browns, sausages, baked beans, and mushrooms.
- The buffet also offered daily cook-to-order specials, such as morning tacos and omelettes, adding a fresh touch to the standard breakfast spread.
While the price is on the higher side, the quality of food and variety made it worth the experience.

Fitness and Wellness Facilities
One of the standout features of the Hyatt Canberra is its dedicated fitness and wellness centre, located in a separate building at the rear of the hotel. This facility includes:
- A gym equipped with a comprehensive range of modern machines and free weights.
- A sauna and spa, providing a perfect space for relaxation.
- A swimming pool, great for both exercise and leisure.
These facilities are available from 6 AM to 10 PM, making it convenient for both early risers and those looking to unwind after a long day.
