Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel – an affordable 5 star experience in a great city if you are visiting Osaka

If you ever find yourself thinking that hotels in Japan are expensive, you are not alone at all. Hotels in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto along the golden route are both expensive and comparatively tiny. Just 30 minutes away by train, you can get an even larger hotel room at an even more affordable price. Back when I visited Kobe in 2017, I only paid approximately AUD$100 a night at the Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel.

Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel is a five star hotel located in Kobe’s Meriken Park, which is a large waterfront with parks and the famed Ferris Wheel and Kobe Tower within view. Even though the hotel seems out of the way on the map, it is well within walking distance Kobe Harborland where restaurants, shopping and a bunch of entertainment options are plenty, including museums, public onsen, karaoke and video game arcades. Plus plenty of small shops and places to grab treats on a late night stroll.

Plus the hotel is really close to a stop for the city loop buses, which are around 600 yen a ticket. The city loop bus takes passengers to pretty much all the key Kobe attractions including the drop off point to Mount Rokko.

The hotel was much more spacious than in Osaka and Tokyo. I found the ability to stretch and move around much easier. As this is a 5 star hotel, the reception and lobby is exquisite and as part of their service they will actually take you and your bags to your room. Plus show you all the features in the room, including how to use the television remote.

Once you know how to get around by bus and train, I actually found this hotel to be super convenient. It just helps that it had good service and was affordable as well. Hanging out at night was pretty easy too.
