La Glamz – Noble Park – traditional Malaysian dishes like Nasi Goreng and Nasi Lemak

La Glamz is a restaurant hidden away from the main areas of Noble Park. You’ll have to walk down Buckley Street to be able to notice this hidden gem.

On arrival, we managed to find parking along the side street just outside the restaurant. When it came to finding the entrance, we struggled to find it until we found a door handle facing away from Buckley Street.

Once inside, the hosts were quick to prepare our table and get us a baby chair for our baby.

There were bain-marie set up showcasing the various dishes on offer. It seems that mixed rice is a popular option with customers and the options to add to the mixed rice changed from day to day.

Perusing the menu, we were struck by how simple the menu was, in a good way. It showed that the restaurant focused on traditional Malaysian rice dishes and noodle dishes. There wasn’t any curry laksa or hor fan, it was pure Malay dishes like Nasi Goreng and Nasi Lemak.

We ordered their Nasi Goreng with Chicken for $17 and their Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang for $16. We self served our own water and cutlery.

The Beef Rendang was already ready to go with the host putting everything together from dishes in the bain-marie. We saw the dish go into the microwave, which I thought was normal (given my experience in hospitality) but my wife was slightly displeased. The dish was really delicious. The beef, the sambal, the crispy anchovies and nuts hit all the right notes.

The Nasi Goreng with Chicken surprised us in a positive way. Not only was there fried rice with chicken pieces, which is what we were expecting, but also basted red chicken and soup as well. The fried rice had been wok fried, so came nice and pipping hot. It was a delicious dish. The basted red chicken needed a sauce to pair with it, but otherwise was a nice addition to the dish.

When we paid, we noted the 2% surcharge for any card payments. We made sure to purchase some of their desserts before leaving. We got the Pandan crepe for $7, and they gave us another box of desserts for free – which was really sweet and generous of them.
