Madame Tussauds – Sydney – seeing well known people as lifelike wax figures up close at a wax museum

Have you ever wanted to meet famous people all in one spot? If you accept that these famous people are just wax statues of themselves, then you sure can at any Madame Tussauds museum around the world.

What makes the Madame Tussauds Sydney different is that there are more iconic Australian figures on display, from former politicians, like Julia Gillard, movie and television personalities, like Nicole Kidman, and historical figures like Ned Kelly.

When you visit Madame Tussauds Sydney, it is best to pre-purchase the tickets ahead of time because the queues to get the tickets can be long and you don’t want to be stuck in the weather elements for too long, particularly when it is hot and sunny.

When I visited on a Saturday, I noticed that it was particularly busy around 12 to 2 pm and there was a queue of people trying to get in. I can safely say that I was unlucky enough not to pre-purchase the tickets and was suffering in the heat for close to an hour before we could get in.

Madame Tussauds Sydney is a maze, where you will travel through the various sections of the wax museum. Each section has it theme, from history, to sports, to movies, and even cooking.

The wax figures are almost lifelike, with some figures being very close to their original than others. Throughout the museum, you are encouraged to take photos next to the wax figures or in the prop set up around them.

It was staggering standing next to Yao Ming, who is clearly a giant. It was incredible to get that dose of reality, in that I am a hobbit when compared to him.

Interestingly there was a mix of superheroes on display from Marvel’s Spiderman, Iron Man and Wolverine to DC’s Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. Some of the superhero scenes were interesting as it meant we could be creative with how we posed in the photos. I recommend bringing a good camera on a visit.

I have been to the Madame Tussauds Singapore and I remember the museum to the one in Sydney, except I was much more familiar with the wax figures in Sydney than I was in Singapore, which had several local known celebrities.

There are heaps of wax figures of so many famous people, to just name a few (not already mentioned): Barack Obama, Rebel Wilson, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Daniel Craig, Elizabeth II and Katy Perry.

I thought the DC section, which had dark lights and a city scape theme as one of my favorite sections at Madame Tussauds Sydney. I remember there was a crew person helping take photos in this section, because it was really popular. All the Justice League superheroes were on display.

Madame Tussauds Sydney definitely a friends and family affairs, it’s more fun with more people, and it is located near Pyrmont Bridge at 1-5 Wheat Rd, Sydney NSW 2000:
