During our time in Adelaide, we wanted to stay at a hotel that was outside Adelaide’s CBD, offered onsite car park and a bath tub (for our 1 year old). The Marion Hotel offered all three and best of all it was only 20 minutes drive from Adelaide Airport. It was only 20 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD, had plenty of onsite parking and the largest shopping center in South Australia just 5 minutes away at Marion Plaza.
We stayed for two nights at the Marion Hotel. It was easy to reach by car. (And let’s be honest, you need to be driving when you are in Adelaide, because it is easier to get places and the traffic is five times better than it is in Melbourne and Sydney.)
The Marion Hotel has 4 floors but only one lift. With only one lift, it can be pretty slow during the morning and evening when it is most in use.
There is one restaurant on the ground floor as well as pokies and a drive through beer and wine store. It’s also home to several functions, events and parties thanks to its family atmosphere. People from all over come to dine, watch sports and engage in gambling. At the restaurant, you can purchase typical Western dishes and you can even order the restaurant food to your room with an added $8 service charge.
When we checked-in, we had to put a $200 deposit as a bond. This would be fully refundable if we don’t terrorize the room or steal anything valuable.
We thought the room was very modern. The bathroom came with a bathtub and a television. Unfortunately there are no cable television channels, but both televisions were smart televisions so we could watch YouTube and Netflix.
The room also came with an iron, ironing board, robes, kettle, cups, T2 tea, Arnotts biscuits, towels and soaps/bottled bath creams, but no tooth brush or shaver was provided.
For our toddler, we were given a nice cot for her to sleep in. She really enjoyed the cot.
The room had really nice lighting with modern light switches, usb charging lines and even a quiet corner area (which allowed you to hide behind the blinds).
In terms of the local area, there are petrol stations around and even a grocery store across the road. It’s on a main road, so it makes it easy getting from point A to point B. Adelaide is a 20 minute city.
I can see how this hotel has won Best Hotel 2020 since it is modern by South Australian standards and was the nicest hotel we stayed in throughout our stay in the State. It has all the modern amenities you could hope for and offers all the necessary things to keep you comfortable. It could use with some cutlery and a microwave, but it is no big deal if you plan on eating out everyday.
The Marion Hotel & Cellars is located at 849 Marion Road, Mitchell Park South Australia 5043:
