Old Street Hunan Kitchen – Melbourne – Midcity Arcade’s colourful, flavourful and wonderful Chinese dishes

Midcity Arcade between Bourke Street and Little Bourke Street is home to some fantastic restaurants, including Old Street Hunan Kitchen. Old Street Hunan Kitchen has a lot of patriotism going for it with tableware, from cups to plates, having a lot of revolutionary icons printed on them. Aside from that, I think the most important thing is that the dishes on offer are delicious!

Access to mobile internet is awful within Midcity Arcade, so it’s best to connect to Old Street Hunan Kitchen’s free wifi network. If you want to order any dishes, you can use the QR code on the table. There are plenty of rice and noodles dishes, with many dishes looking superb but spicy-looking.

Great lunch experience with a bit of a spicy kick

I’ve been to Old Street Hunan Kitchen a few times and think they do an excellent job with any of their pork dishes, whether pork belly or sliced pork with chilli with rice. They tend to go heavy on the chilli. You can customise your order by adding changes in the comments section when you make your order.

On one of my visits, I went with their Pork Belly with Rice and ordered the $2 soup to go with it. While waiting for my order, I was served some roasted peanuts. On seeing my dish, I was amazed by the visuals. It was a colourful dish, with reds, yellows, and greens, but with lots of chilli. The steamed cabbage on the other side of my plate was a nice addition. The soup was full of umami flavours and is worth getting.

Overall, if you need a lunch idea and want flavour, visit Old Street Hunan Kitchen in Midcity Arcade.
