Pullman Melbourne on the Park is located on Wellington Parade, however its the same road as Flinders Street and Bridge Road. The hotel is in a fantastic location thanks to its proximity to a train station, the major sporting centres like the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Rod Laver Arena, plus parks like Fitzroy and Treasury Gardens. The hotel is newish looking on the inside, offers good sized rooms with nice furnishing, and an excellent breakfast buffet.
Highlights | Pullman Melbourne on the Park is a good option for those people wanting a family-sized room close to a train station or the Melbourne Cricket Ground/Rod Laver Arena. The breakfast on the ground floor is better than most other hotels with its varied options. |

We booked the Deluxe King Room with Club Lounge access, which included a room on the 18th floor – the same floor as the club lounge.
Getting there
The Pullman Melbourne on the Park is located away from the heart of the city, but its well within walking distance. Plus there is access across the road to Jollimont Station, as well as a major tram line, and plenty of buses.
As soon as you arrive at Jollimont Station, the hotel can be seen as soon as you surface from the station with a convenient pedestrian crossing almost in front of the hotel.
It has a newish look and feel
The hotel looks and feels quite impressive with nice art installations and many mesmerising elements to project a lavish, elegant place. A lot of empty space, as well as high ceilings, and marble walls are used to great effect.
The check-in process was relatively straight forward. The staff provided two key cards and took a $100 deposit bond.
The room was elegant with some nice to haves missing
The rooms themselves are elegant in that there is a nice sofa to relax, a sofa to serve as a leg rest, and see through screen between the main room and bathroom that you can turn opaque with the press of the Privacy button.
There was a large Phillips television with free to air channels, YouTube, various subscription streaming channels like Netflix and Disney Plus (but you have to have your own login), and their catalogue of movies for a $24.99 subscription. (Not sure it’s worth $24.99 for a night.)
The hotel promoted sustainability, so there wasn’t a lot of mini plastic bottles or “freebies” on offer. Although, there was a large shower, the shampoo, conditioner and body wash was all mounted onto the walls so you couldn’t take them home and our body wash was already depleted during our night stay. There were no free water bottles, instead we were encouraged to drink straight from the tap (presumably the bathroom tap). There was sachets of tea bags, coffee and other staples, and there was a mini bar with expensive alcohol, soft drinks and snacks.
The club lounge on the 18th floor could see the MCG
The club lounge can be accessed using the access card provided by concierge. The lounge is a long room with lots of posh sofas and tables. It has a nice view of the Melbourne Cricket Grounds, where you can glimpse at whatever is happening from the distance. There were daily newspaper from the rabid news outlets as well as magazines.
The club lounge had a few refreshments throughout the day like shortcakes, biscuits, crackers, and bottles of soft drink and ginger beer and tea and coffee.
At 5:30 PM, they provided a number of canapes with three hot food options, a cachutery ham and cheese board. breads, alcohol, and a dessert option (which was first puff pastries and then apple pie). The hot food options were chicken and mushroom dumplings, falafel, and satay chicken skewers. The chicken skewers and dumplings were nice, but otherwise it was a pretty mediocre offering when compared to other establishments that offer quite a lot of food.
The hotel’s facilities were okay
The facilities on level 2 consisted of an outdoor swimming pool with towels provided before you hop in and a small gymnasium and some equipment. I didn’t spot the sauna, despite it being mentioned as one of the things you could use.
The best thing is the buffet breakfast
Although there was the option to have breakfast in the club lounge, it had only a very small offering of things, so we opted to go downstairs to The Cliveden. The Cliveden was a much better option since there was heaps more variety.
The food was excellent. I even tried their congee and found it fragrant and delicious. I also enjoyed their pastries like the almond croissant and the blueberry donut. I was expecting them both to be stale by 9:30 am, but both were still bouncy and delicious.
Overall its a great hotel. It was surprising how good the breakfast buffet was. The Club Lounge offers some nice views, but isn’t something I’d clamour back for. Great hotel for families and people wanting to be close to the action and away from the crowds.
