Spicy Thai – Thai cuisine with live music on Buckingham Ave, Springvale

Spicy Thai is a new Thai restaurant in Springvale. It opened its doors in 2022. This restaurant is up against a lot of competitors on the same shopping strip as more and more non-restaurant shops are closed in favour of restaurants along Buckingham Avenue. Back in the day in the 90s when this was the main shopping strip, there were only two restaurants but now there are at least ten restaurants all vying for the same customers.

What makes this restaurant stand out is that along with Thai cuisine the restaurant offers live music from time to time. The songs are usually in Thai, but you can make requests.

The menu consists of individual meals and shared meals. If you want typical Thai dishes, you can find them here such as Pad Thai, Tom Yum and Curries. I noticed that a lot of families visited and ordered shared soups, fried meats and rice.

My experience

On the day, I ordered their Pad Thai with beef for $16 and Garlic, Egg and Prawn on Rice for $18. The Pad Thai was nice as there was a decent amount of beef included with the noodles. It also helps that the restaurant lays out the various sauce condiments on the table, such as chilli flakes and pickled chilli sauce.

On the other hand, the Garlic, Egg and Prawn on Rice was okay. It had a new aroma thanks to the garlic and decent flavour, but it lacked sufficient prawns and needed one more egg to be cracked for the omelete. I didn’t feel like this dish was worth $18.
