Tandoor Indian Cuisine – Ballarat – great Indian cuisine
Tandoor Indian Cuisine, located next to Dosa Hut in Ballarat, offers a satisfying Indian dining experience with great food, attentive service, and a cosy ambience. Although Google Maps initially led us astray, the restaurant was easy to find once we used Dosa Hut as a reference point. The central location makes it a convenient choice for locals and visitors exploring Ballarat’s dining scene.
Upon entering, the updated and inviting décor immediately stood out. Despite having operated for around ten years, the restaurant relocated to its current location in October 2023, giving it a fresh, modern touch. The attention to detail in the design, with warm lighting and comfortable seating, created an environment perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. Service
Service at Tandoor Indian Cuisine was exceptional and a significant highlight of our visit. From the moment we were seated, the host’s attentiveness was evident. Water was promptly brought to our table, and they frequently checked in to ensure we were enjoying our meal. The staff’s friendly demeanour and willingness to accommodate our preferences added a personal touch that enhanced the overall dining experience.
One feature that stood out was the customisable spice levels. The host thoughtfully asked how spicy we wanted each dish, offering a scale from 0 to 10. This was particularly helpful as we wanted our daughter to try the Mango Chicken, so we opted for a 0 spice level for that dish, while leaving the Garlic Lamb Masala at its normal spice level. This level of flexibility is rare and demonstrates the restaurant’s commitment to catering to diverse tastes and preferences.
Food and Menu
The menu at Tandoor Indian Cuisine was extensive and filled with enticing options. It catered to a variety of palates, offering both classic Indian dishes and unique creations. We decided to try Coconut Rice ($9), Mango Chicken ($23), Garlic Lamb Masala ($27), and Butter Naan ($5.50).
The Coconut Rice was a fragrant and flavourful accompaniment, perfectly balancing the richness of the curries. The Mango Chicken was a standout, with its creamy and subtly sweet sauce. Prepared at a 0 spice level, it was a hit with our daughter and had a delightful depth of flavour that made it enjoyable for adults as well. The Garlic Lamb Masala, served at its standard spice level, was tender and packed with robust spices, offering a bold contrast to the milder Mango Chicken.
The Butter Naan was another highlight. Soft, fluffy, and generously brushed with butter, it was perfect for scooping up the rich sauces. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring that we left the restaurant feeling satisfied. The quality of the ingredients was evident in each dish, and the care in preparation was reflected in the balanced and authentic flavours.
