The Umeda Sky Building (or 梅田スカイビル) is a high rise building near Osaka and Umeda Stations in an area called Shin Umeda City. There are two towers connected with each other via the Floating Garden Observatory. It’s not really a garden of greenery at the top, but there are plants and mini-gardens on the lower floors. The views are great from the top. You can get a 360 degree panoramic view of the city. I would caution being up there on a windy day, because you are out in the elements and there is no shading at the very top.
To enter the observatory, there is an admission fee of 1,000 yen. You can explore the museum which houses information about the building and includes various photos and a diorama of the building. You also get to ride on a sky elevator as journey to the top.
When you are at the top, you can get a real sense of the layout of the city and how the bridges connect Osaka with Shin Osaka. I am told that the sights are nicer at night when all the neon lights and busy nightlife comes to life.
Once you finish at the Umeda Sky Building, you should stay around and visit the restaurants and shops in the area. Underground, there is a famous is a famous place decorated in historic Japanese aesthetics called Takimokoji. In Takimokoji is a famous Okonomiyaki restaurant that you need to visit and try, Okonomiyaki Kiji (which we visited).
