Jurassic World Exhibition Melbourne – Brunswick – a short thriller for some

Jurassic World Exhibition Melbourne is located on Dawson Street in Brunswick. It can be reached by tram on route 19 from the city or by train by arriving at either Brunswick Station or Jewel Station. The Jurassic World Exhibition is an opportunity to have family time with kids and friends. We visited with another family with kids under 5 years old. There were some scary moments as we ventured further into the exhibition, it starts off calm and informative. But as the Velociraptors, things start to become more intense. All told, the exhibition felt unusually short.

Although there is a ticketing booth along the exhibition, it’s better to just purchase tickets online. If you are coming with kids, make sure to select the discounted tickets for the adults. By purchasing online, you can also head straight to the entrance to have the QR code scanned.

If you arrive with a pram, there is a dedicated stroller storage area just outside the exhibition. It isn’t a concealed area, so you will need to bring your valuables with you. Unfortunately there is no way to bring the stroller into the exhibition.

Right before the exhibition is also a small kiosk selling small treats from donuts, chocolates, to sandwiches. It also sells coffees as well. I went with a Oat Latte, which was alright. One thing to note is that you can’t enter the venue with any food or drinks, but there are signs saying that a water bottle is fine.

If you need to use toilets, there are unisex toilets before entering the venue and a single baby change room. All the cubicles are enclosed and toilets are relatively clean and modern.

Once you scanned your tickets, you can take a family or group photo. There are two photos in front of a green screen, one happy one and another scared one. What happens is that they provide a ticket with a QR code for you to purchase your photos. A single large, physical photo is $20, and you can add digital photos for $12.50 and keyring/magnet for $12.50. When it came time to pay, I only paid $35 for the whole package because I received a surprise $10 discount. The photos are pretty cool, with some nice backgrounds.

The first step into the Jurassic Park Exhibition involves a “ferry” ride. This is a room where you sit in front of a television screen which introduces you to the whole experience.

Once you make your way past this stage, the iconic John William’s Jurassic Park/World music starts playing and you are introduced to a Brachiosaurus animatronic. Here you realise that there are just a bunch of set backdrops to support the dinosaur animatronics.

The exhibition itself isn’t a long experience. It can be done in under 45 minutes. There are about eight different rooms, each with their own staff guiding patrons. Everyone will be safe, and the staff even help out with photo-taking and explaining things.

It’s worth noting that there is no way back. So once you pass certain points, you are locked out of going back. The exhibition herds people in one direction towards the shop at the end.

There are two slightly terrifying rooms for kids. One with a Velociraptor and another with two T-Rex. The T-Rex room was probably the most exciting room because of the built up tension. It wouldn’t be Jurassic World without these rooms. Although my kids were scared, it shouldn’t be too terrifying for kids older than 6.
