Kentavros – Huntingdale – Greek restaurant as a hidden gem
Kentavros is a quaint Greek café tucked along Huntingdale Road, offering a homely and intimate dining experience. The café itself is quite small, and when we arrived, it was completely empty. However, during our meal, we noticed another diner and a few people stopping by for takeaway, showing that this little spot has its own loyal following.

Warm and Personal Service
One of the highlights of our visit was the exceptional service. The lady running the café seemed to be working alone on a Saturday night, yet she took the time to make us feel welcome, providing us with cold, chilled water and personally recommending what to order. Her warmth and attentiveness made the experience feel more like visiting a family member’s home than dining at a restaurant. We had our kids and even though she was busy, spent some time chatting to us about them.
A Meal Without a Menu
Rather than ordering from a menu, we trusted the owner’s suggestions, which led us to their renowned beef moussaka and spanakopita. Despite the scorching 37-degree heat outside, we were eager for a hearty yet comforting meal. The moussaka, priced at $22, came heated and accompanied by a side of Mediterranean vegetables, including potatoes, dried tomatoes, olives, and eggplant. The spanakopita ($15) had a wonderfully flaky, crispy exterior with a warm, savoury filling of spinach and cheese.

Rich, Satisfying Flavours
The owner’s recommendation to share both dishes turned out to be spot on. The moussaka was a true standout, resembling an Italian lasagna but with layers of sliced potato, eggplant, and a rich, flavourful vegetable filling. It was hearty and well-balanced, making it a dish worth savouring. The spanakopita, on the other hand, was light and crisp, offering a contrast to the richness of the moussaka. By the time we finished, we were both completely satisfied.

Final Thoughts
Kentavros Huntingdale may be a small, unassuming café, but it delivers a heartfelt and delicious Greek dining experience. The personal touch from the owner, the well-prepared traditional dishes, and the cosy setting make it a hidden gem worth discovering. If you’re in the area and craving authentic Greek comfort food, this charming spot is well worth a visit.
