Marriott Docklands is connected to District Docklands shopping complex. It can be reached by tram within the free tram zone. This hotel opened to guests from February 2021, just in the midst of the whole lockdown period. It offers a stunning view of Docklands from floor 15, which is home to its infinity pool, hot spa tub, rooftop bar and fitness centre.
Near the hotel are a few shops, though half the shops are closed down, some restaurants/cafes and some entertainment centres like an ice-skating rink, an arcade with laser tag and virtual reality, ArtVo, Costco, and Chaos Lab. There is also the Melbourne Star, the no-longer in operation ferris wheel.
Marriott Docklands’ main entrance is located just outside the shopping complex. The hotel’s interior is modern and elegant. The check-in process was relatively straight forward, except I had to return later in the day back to the counter to update my card’s access to the club lounge on the third floor.
The hotel offers an impressive set of amenities including its popular infinity pool, hot spa tub, fitness centre, meeting spaces and a restaurant on the ground floor called Archers and rooftop bar called Sunset House.
One thing worth noting is that the lifts respond very quickly. However, only two out of the four had access to floor 15, which the floor to access the infinity pool.
Club lounge on third floor
The club lounge is located on the third floor. It’s a small lounge. There is a bit of table service for drinks. The evening drinks start at 5:00 PM and finish at 7:00 PM. There is a decent selection of drinks and alcoholic drinks from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The hors d’oeuvre was relatively simple, two hot food choices of vegetable curry pie or chicken filo along with some small tarts, cured meats and cheese. The club lounge also has an outdoor area as well.
We booked a King Bed Room. The room itself was a decent size. There were plenty of cupboards and space for belongings. The shower has the big overhead showerhead. And the bathroom has sliding mirrors that allow you to see out of the windows into Docklands.
There were a decent amount of amenities including toothbrushes, combs, mouthwash, etc. They provide two complimentary bottles of water.
I couldn’t work out if I could get Netflix or YouTube onto the television, but it had access to the usual channels from Channel 7, 9 and 10 plus the ABC and SBS. No cable television unfortunately.
The perfect trio of infinity pool, hot spa tub and rooftop bar
Breakfast takes place at their restaurant, Archer’s, on the ground floor. It offers a standard continental breakfast and eggs cooked to preference. The choice of food seems very limited and wasn’t something I’d rate as wanting to come back to. There were bacons bits, scrambled eggs, sausages, tomatoes, various toasts, fruits and yogurts. Nothing spectacular.
There is coffee machine, but if you want a barista coffee, you have to pay extra for it. (To be honest, I preferred the coffee machine coffee and thought it was a bit of a waste of $4.80.)
Overall the Marriott is a good hotel. It’s modern and clean, offers some great views of the Docklands area while you enjoy their hot spa tub or infinity pool, and has a good, but not great club lounge. Based on my experience so far, the best club lounges in Melbourne are Crown Towers, Langham and Sofitel.
