Misojyu – Asakusa – hearty rice balls and soup

There are a few Misojyu outlets in Tokyo, including one in Asakusa and another at the shopping complex at the Tokyo Skytree. The Asakusa one is usually busy with a queue most hours of the day. The restaurant services bigger bowls of miso soup with various meats or vegetables and sushi rice balls.

The opening hours are slightly different to what's advertised here and the morning set is only from 9:00 am to 10:00 am

We had the unfortunate timing of waiting while it was drizzling rain on a Sunday morning. There is no shade and we had to use an umbrella.

Before hopping into the restaurant, we had to leave our stroller outside because there was simply no room to bring it into the building.

The restaurant is a narrow, double storey building and is quite cosy. You place your order downstairs and can head upstairs to eat your meal. The meal is brought to you. You can self serve their tea, which I think is a sweet corn tea.

Miso soup and sushi rice balls are quite filling

We ordered their set menu which came with miso soup, rice ball, half egg and some pickles for 1408 yen. The meal is hearty and filling thanks to the large rice ball and soup bowl. The rice they use is extra tasty and the miso soup is packed with yummy ingredients. We had their French salt rice ball and salmon rice ball. I preferred the salmon one over the French salt one, since there was more flavour and intrigue in it.
