teamLab Planets Tokyo – Toyosu – mesmerising testament to the intersection of art, technology, and the human experience

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Toyosu, Tokyo, teamLab Planets stands as a mesmerising testament to the intersection of art, technology, and the human experience. This immersive digital art exhibition, created by the visionary teamLab, invites visitors to step into a world of enchanting visuals, ethereal sounds, and interactive wonders that blur the boundaries between art and reality.

From the moment you enter teamLab Planets, you’re transported to a realm where imagination knows no limits. The exhibition is a symphony of light, color, and motion that engages all your senses. The combination of innovative technology and artistic brilliance results in an otherworldly experience that awakens the childlike wonder within us.

HighlightsWade through a sea of floating flowers, traverse through an illuminated fish pond, or immerse yourself in a vibrant petal garden. Unlike the Borderless exhibition, this one is all about sensory immersion.

Getting there and tickets

To get to teamLab Planets, you can either catch the bus from Yurakucho Station or taking the monorail to Shin-Toyosu Station. The bus is the cheaper option at 220 yen flat rate, while the monorail is usually 400 yen plus.

It’s best to purchase your ticket ahead of time via their website. If you book via Klook, you may find that they have limited options and availability, whereas it seems to be less of a problem if you book directly through teamLab’s website.

When you arrive at the venue, make sure you can enter the queue for your time. The whole experience can take about 2 hours and unlike my previous experience, their Borderless exhibition, this Planets exhibition is a step by step experience from one attraction to the next.

Before entering the venue, all strollers have to be parked outside.

After scanning your ticket, you are provided instructions via a video. It tells you to experience the water path before the garden path and that you will have to remove your socks and shoes and women wearing skirts can borrow a pair of shorts. The reason becomes all to clear when you experience the exhibition, which was a first for me and a real joy. You can select your own locker with a key wristband and put anything away.

As a tip, I recommend wearing shorts and have a strap for your camera, because there is a section where you are submerged almost knee-deep in water. Your journey takes you through water and garden exhibits. The water experience is breathtaking and immersive.

Experience various interactive environments at teamLab Planets

The journey through teamLab Planets takes you through various interactive environments, each with its own distinct theme and ambiance. Whether you’re wading through a sea of floating flowers, traversing through an illuminated fish pond, or immersing yourself in a vibrant petal garden, every step offers a new facet of astonishment. The fluid transition from one space to another creates a sense of continuity, making the entire exhibition feel like an interconnected dreamscape.

Unlike the previous teamLab Borderless exhibition, which was more about visual aesthetics and auditory elements, this teamLab Planets exhibition focuses on complete immersion where you can feel the exhibit with your feet and actually wade through water.

teamLab Planets in Toyosu is not just an art exhibition; it’s an odyssey into a realm where art and technology intertwine to redefine our perceptions. The immersive environments, interactive elements, and harmonious sensory experiences create a profound connection that lingers long after you exit the exhibition. Whether you’re an art aficionado, a tech enthusiast, or simply someone seeking a transcendent encounter, teamLab Planets promises an enchanting journey that transcends the ordinary and leaves an indelible mark on your imagination.
