The Grand Tofu – Glen Waverley – the best, affordable Malaysian restaurant with fast service and amazing dishes

The Grand Tofu is an institution along Kingsway in Glen Waverley. It has been around for so long, serving amazing Malaysian cuisine with heaps of popular rice and noodle dishes. You can order individual dishes or group dishes to share with the family. It’s famed for its Yong Tofu, where you can select 6 specialty tofu on top of noodle soup, for $15.50. The tofu come in a bunch of varieties, including with fish/prawn meat, vegetables (bitter gourd) and bean curd/wrap.

The restaurant is next to Dodee Paidang along Kingsway.

During most Friday and Saturday nights, this venue has a queue of people waiting outside for their seat. If you don’t mind sitting outside, you are more likely to get your seat sooner, but otherwise expect a packed restaurant.

There are also several servers. When you are ready to order, call someone over and let them know what you want. At the same time, they normally provide some hot tea for the table.

Most orders are usually fast, from ordering to landing on the table.

The best place to go if you want affordable, amazing food

I’ve tried most of their popular/recommended dishes. I highly recommend the Yong Tofu for $15.50. Their Beef Brisket on noodles for $16.80 is really good, as well as their Hainanese Chicken Rice for $15.50. Every dish I tried was amazing.

If you want additional condiments like chilli oil, chilli sauce or pickled chilli, they have a self serve area.

It’s always better to pay with cash, as there is a credit card surcharge. But also, they have introduced a 5% surcharge for dining during the weekend.
