Timezone Surfers Paradise is not just another arcade on the Gold Coast, it is a landmark attraction that has been entertaining locals and tourists for decades. Located in the middle of Cavill Mall at Paradise Centre, just moments from the sand and surf, this venue has become a rite of passage for anyone visiting Surfers Paradise. With its claim as the largest Timezone in the world, and certainly the largest in Australia, it sets expectations high before you even step inside.

Whether you are an arcade enthusiast chasing rhythm games, a family looking for activities to fill a holiday itinerary, or a group of friends after something more interactive than a bar crawl, this venue manages to cater to all of them under one roof.

Location and Accessibility
Timezone Surfers Paradise is located on Level 1 of Paradise Centre, Cavill Mall, Surfers Paradise, QLD 4217. This is one of the most central and accessible locations on the Gold Coast, surrounded by accommodation, dining, retail, and of course the iconic Surfers Paradise Beach.
Getting here is straightforward, particularly if you are using public transport. The G Link light rail stops at Cavill Avenue, which places you within a very short walk of Paradise Centre. From there, signage is clear and the venue itself is difficult to miss once you reach Level 1. For visitors staying nearby, it is an easy walk from most Surfers Paradise hotels and apartments.
Being positioned in Paradise Centre also makes it easy to combine Timezone with other activities. You can spend the morning at the beach, head inside to escape the heat, then return outside for dinner or sunset drinks without ever needing a car.
First Impressions and Venue Size
One of the defining features of Timezone Surfers Paradise is its sheer scale. This is not an exaggeration, the venue is enormous, and the size becomes immediately apparent once you step inside. Rows upon rows of arcade machines stretch across the floor, with different zones branching off into bowling, laser tag, bumper cars, mini golf, and dining areas.
Despite the size, the layout is surprisingly navigable. Games are grouped logically, with redemption machines in clusters, rhythm and video games in their own areas, and physical attractions clearly signposted. Even during busy periods, the space absorbs crowds well, avoiding the cramped feeling that smaller arcades often suffer from.
The lighting is bright and colourful, leaning into the classic neon arcade aesthetic while still feeling modern. Sound levels are high, as expected, but not overwhelming considering the scale of the venue.
Game Cards, Credits, and Value
Timezone operates on a reloadable card system, which is standard across their venues. Credits can be loaded at kiosks or counters throughout the arcade. At the time of writing, there are attractive bonus structures available, with $35 in credits receiving a $5 bonus, and $50 in credits receiving a $20 bonus.
For regular players or anyone planning to spend several hours inside, the $50 option offers strong value, particularly when you factor in the sheer number of machines available. Credits are used across most arcade games, while some attractions such as bowling, laser tag, and bumper cars may be priced separately or bundled depending on promotions.
From a value perspective, the size of Timezone Surfers Paradise means you are not competing heavily for machines outside of peak holiday periods. Even during busy times, there is enough variety that you can always find something available to play.
Arcade Game Selection
The arcade offering is the core strength of Timezone Surfers Paradise. With over 300 arcade games on site, it is easily the most comprehensive arcade collection in Australia.
Classic arcade staples are well represented, including Pac Man, various pinball machines, air hockey, and traditional racing cabinets. These sit comfortably alongside modern and contemporary machines, ensuring the arcade appeals to both nostalgia driven players and those seeking newer experiences.
Rhythm and Music Games
For rhythm game fans, Timezone Surfers Paradise is particularly impressive. During my visit, I spent a significant amount of time playing Dance Dance Revolution and Taiko no Tatsujin, both of which were in excellent condition and featured up to date content.
Dance Dance Revolution machines are increasingly rare in Australia, especially ones that are well maintained and responsive. The pads here felt solid, and the machines attracted a steady flow of skilled players throughout the day. Taiko no Tatsujin also stood out as a highlight, offering a colourful and energetic rhythm experience that appeals to both casual players and those chasing high scores.
In addition to these, there are other rhythm and music based games such as Mai Mai, which further reinforce Timezone Surfers Paradise as a destination for rhythm game enthusiasts.
Racing and Motion Games
Racing games are plentiful, with multiple cabinets of popular titles such as Mario Kart. These machines are ideal for groups, allowing friends and families to compete against each other in an accessible and familiar format.
Feature attractions like Typhoon, a motion simulator, add another layer to the experience. These machines combine physical movement with on screen visuals, offering a more immersive experience than standard arcade cabinets.
Redemption and Prize Games
Redemption games occupy a large portion of the arcade floor, and it is clear that Timezone has invested heavily in variety and presentation. Claw machines, including E Claw units, are stocked with plush toys and novelty prizes. Big Sweet Land machines dispense lollies, appealing particularly to younger visitors.
Tickets earned from redemption games are collected digitally and can be redeemed at the iconic Winner’s Vault. The prize range is extensive, spanning from small toys and sweets to higher value electronics and branded merchandise. For regular players or families spending multiple visits, the ticket accumulation system encourages repeat play.

Interactive and Physical Attractions
Beyond traditional arcade games, Timezone Surfers Paradise distinguishes itself through its range of physical and interactive attractions.
Laser Tag
The laser tag arena is a standout feature and one of the most popular attractions in the venue. It is well suited to families, groups of friends, and even corporate team building. The arena design encourages movement and strategy, and sessions are well organised to keep things flowing even during peak times.
Bumper Cars
The bumper car area, branded as Spin Zone, provides a light hearted way to settle rivalries or simply burn off some energy. It is particularly popular with younger players, but adults are clearly enjoying it just as much.
Mini Golf
The 12 hole glow in the dark mini golf course offers a slower paced alternative to the arcade floor. With fluorescent obstacles and themed lighting, it is a good option for families or couples looking for something a little different within the same venue.
ColourGrid
ColourGrid is one of the more unique offerings at Timezone Surfers Paradise. This high energy interactive challenge involves stepping, jumping, and racing across pressure responsive tiles. It combines physical movement with quick thinking and is well suited to competitive groups.
Mini Bowling
Mini bowling caters to smaller hands and shorter attention spans, making it ideal for younger children. The scaled down lanes still capture the essence of tenpin bowling without the intimidation factor of full sized lanes.
Zone Bowling Surfers Paradise
Integrated within the Timezone complex is Zone Bowling Surfers Paradise, which expands the entertainment offering even further. This section features 12 visually interactive tenpin bowling lanes, creating a modern and engaging bowling experience.
Augmented Reality Darts
AR Darts is another highlight, featuring a real dart board combined with a projected augmented overlay and electronic scoring. Multiple game modes allow players to test accuracy and reflexes, making it accessible even for those who do not regularly play darts.
Food and Beverage
Zone Bowling also includes a large on site café and dining area. The menu offers a range of food and drinks suitable for extended visits, and importantly, the venue is licensed. This makes it a viable option for adult groups who want to combine arcade games, bowling, and casual drinks in one location.

Chill Out Zones and Facilities
Timezone Surfers Paradise includes designated Chill Out Zones, which are particularly appreciated by parents and anyone needing a break from the constant stimulation of the arcade floor. Seating areas are spread throughout the venue, providing places to rest without needing to leave entirely.
Party rooms are also available for birthdays and celebrations, reinforcing the venue’s focus on group experiences and events.
Who Is Timezone Surfers Paradise For
One of the strongest aspects of Timezone Surfers Paradise is its broad appeal. Families will find plenty of age appropriate activities, from mini bowling to redemption games. Teenagers and young adults are drawn to rhythm games, racing cabinets, and laser tag. Adults and couples can enjoy bowling, darts, and the licensed café area.
Arcade enthusiasts will appreciate the sheer volume and quality of machines, particularly the presence of well maintained rhythm games. Tourists benefit from the central location and extended opening hours, making it easy to fit into any itinerary.
Overall Experience and Final Thoughts
Timezone Surfers Paradise succeeds because it understands what a modern arcade needs to be. It is not just about lining up machines, it is about creating a comprehensive entertainment destination. The combination of arcade games, physical attractions, bowling, dining, and social spaces ensures that visitors can easily spend several hours here without running out of things to do.
As the largest Timezone in Australia, and arguably the most impressive, it sets a benchmark for what arcades can offer. Whether you are dropping in for a quick session on Dance Dance Revolution, introducing kids to arcade games for the first time, or planning a full afternoon of activities, Timezone Surfers Paradise delivers consistently.
Its location near Surfers Paradise Beach only enhances its appeal, allowing visitors to seamlessly blend outdoor and indoor entertainment. For anyone visiting the Gold Coast, this is a must visit venue, and for locals, it remains a reliable and evolving entertainment hub that rewards repeat visits.
